Its nothing to do with "protecting children" but it makes a great way of silencing critics of the scheme who'll just get labelled as perverts for sticking up for civil rights and online privacy.

I think the government seriously underestimates just how tech savvy kids are these days. Most of them have been using computers not soon after they could walk, they put aging millennials such as myself to shame. Teenagers will have no trouble using proxies to bypass this rubbish while old farts run around embarrassing themselves.

It will protect some very young children happening onto stuff by accident, but all this nonsense could be avoided if they just let parents take responsibility for asking they ISPs to filter their connection.

This is just simply not true.

Teenagers these days have the same amount of computer illiterate people as millenials, for most people a computer is nothing more than a place to google. Most Gen Z people grow up on smart phones as well, not necessarily computers.

As somebody who's taught the kids you're talking about I say a lot of them will be stumped by this block. Although if one kid works it out it'll spread around the whole school.

As I understand it, the legislation only applies to paid sites.

There'll still be lots of free porn for everyone.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Yeah kids aren’t techno anything and it will get worse. 90% of “technology” is wrapped in a pretty wizard or app making it a piece of piss to use with no knowledge of how it works.

Kids are consumer of tech but they don’t understand it better etc. they are just more willing to try than older people and app makers are spending lots of money to make everything as intuitive as possible.

All that is true, but using a VPN doesn't take any skill or in depth knowledge.

It'll take 3 seconds and will go like this:

"gooseberry fool the porn isn't working! What do I do???"

**Googles***

"A VPN gives me back the porn? Cool"

There's enough YouTubers with VPN sponsorships recently (including he who must not be named) that all the kids will know exactly what they need to do in order to get around this...

I'm not sure about kids wanted to pay for a VPN although I guess if they have a part time job it won't mind too much. I guess there are free options though. I guess we'll see how effective it is.

Using crap free VPNs might be a bigger security risk than the actual porn pass, though then again I think I would still rather the Chinese government knew my fetishes than the UK one

Searching for piglet gets you put on David Cameron's fan list, though.

It's still likely to come sooner or later though.
