So if all these people don't know about it, how long will it be before the first sex-starved zombies start roaming the streets, lunging into the bushes for a chance to nab some free porn?

I agree with that report in saying that implementing this won't prevent access to children. It'll lessen it, but there's so many workarounds and so much stuff that manages to slip through undetected that there's still a large chance of finding something. And what of films on streaming services both legit and 'free'? It might not be hardcore stuff, but there's certainly enough films that are pretty close to being softcore around that are easily accessible.

Like strawberry float are about 90% of porn websites out there going to satisfy UK legislation as most of them are hosted thousands of miles away.

The worst thing is they are just going to force huge numbers of people to use VPNs and it’ll be that much harder to track people viewing or plotting actual illegal acts. All while zero children are stopped from watching porn.

Idiots.

This.

It'll also end up vilifying anyone who uses a VPN for other reasons, it'll not be long until the tabloids start running headlines about VPNs being used exclusively by peodos.

That’s unfair on the press. They’ll be calling everyone terrorists as well.

They will when 90% of the porn websites are building the blocking system in the first place. Also I'm guessing at some point all these websites are looking for people to spend some money so they'll want to conform to UK's rules if they want money from us.

Aren't most of the porn sites owned by the same company/ies? So if a few of them are going to be implementing it, then most probably will? Also, them having this data from their users would be beneficial to them anyway so a fair amount would probably be happy to go with it, surely?

90% for now.

I imagine this will create a pretty big opportunity for other sites to come in and offer free access.

How would that work you could get free access if you hand over your credit card,. Anyone operating outside the system will be blocked.

No I meant free access as in, not requiring age verification.

I suppose ISPs will need to continually be blocking sites that don't comply, but they already try to block other illegal sites and they don't exactly manage that particularly well.

Is the rule that sites have to be over 30% pornography? What if they just start hosting 3 cat pictures for every explicit one.

But... but... search engines have over thirty percent porn. I once did a photo image search of a landscape that was my lock-screen image-of-the-day and got some real tasteful stuff.

And if search engines are blocked - we're doomed.

I'm not really talking about literal "porn.com" websites but random blogs, foreign social media etc that are never going to comply with any kind of regulatory stuff because they can't be arsed or aren't actually obliged to. So yes they will need to be proactively blocked by ISPs, which is reactionary and so fundamentally impossible in real time.

Ergo everyone including children will have no problem accessing adult content with a basic web search or other semi legal network like torrents or Usenet or onion, as long as anyone is hosting it.

This will probably end up being expanded to hefty penalties for hosting providers that don't actively enforce their ToCs, this will increase the cost of web hosting as risks increases, which is bad for public media ownership.

It's going to fan the flames as much as extinguish them. You cannot stop humans having sexual desires, including children, even if you think it harms them, or society.

I think you underestimate just how respected the British government is around the world. If we say "get shot of this grot" then the world will be compelled to act. So it is written.

Yeah but what about sharia law and the zionists, we are just giving them an excuse to produce radicalised and illuminati porn and make us pay extra for it, filling their already vast Bitcoin coffers.
