I assume it must be included in console bundles because I have not noticed it being sold cheaply, Ring Fit Adventure is also surprising, I know it’s advertised on tv quite a lot but I would have thought it would be pretty niche

From what I have read it’s the first time a Assassins Creed or a Ubisoft game has been Christmas number one

Five Switch games in a UK Christmas top ten; perhaps surprising considering the UK has previously not been a particularly strong market for Nintendo.

Amazing to think that we've had a new console generation arrive and there's not a huge impact from them in the chart. I guess console supply is a big factor in this. It kinda reminds me of when the PS2 released and yet the revitalised PSone continued to pull in customers. Well... maybe not, as this time the older machines are pretty tough to find, too!

Mario Kart is essentially never not in the charts.

I don't think it has been unusual since the wii/DS?

Mario Kart, Mario and Pokemon are always chart toppers with staying power. Animal Crossing I'm pretty sure has been charting all year, and possibly Ring Fit has too.

Yeah, since Switch launched it has really turned things around for Nintendo in the UK. The glory days of the Wii were pretty much over by 2010 so we had quite a run without too much Nintendo representation (Christmas 2011 through 2015 can be seen here).

Funnily enough, Nintendo now has the cheapest games on the market; generally RRP £50 against RRP £55+ for last gen and RRP £65+ for new gen (outside of retailer discounts on all formats). Quite a change!

I think that's quite standard for any big release.

As well as being the first time that an Assassin’s Creed game has secured the Christmas number one, Valhalla also managed to become only the third game in 15 years to prevent either of the latest entries in the FIFA or Call of Duty series from topping the list.
