Ignoring the man himself and just looking at what he's saying, I can kind of see where he's coming from - would Germany have been so hot for revenge and domination if the world hadn't been so hard on them in the Treaty of Versailles? There were warnings back then that the reparations and admissions of guilt placed upon Germany were so harsh and humiliating that it would come back to bite Europe on the arse further down the road, and they were proved right.
There is something to be said for leaving Russia with a way out of this that doesn't turn them into a ticking time bomb of vengeance, you have to leave the door open to welcome them back into the international community
eventually, probably post-Putin if we're lucky enough for him to get overthrown.
Totally accept that it's a very complex situation though so don't be too harsh on my ponderings
