Russia said on Thursday that Finland's bid to join NATO was a hostile move that "definitely" posed a threat to its security.

The Kremlin said it would respond but declined to spell out how, saying this would depend on how close NATO moves military assets towards the 1,300 km (800-mile) Finnish-Russian frontier.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Russia would need to take "retaliatory steps, both of a military-technical and other nature, in order to stop threats to its national security arising".

"Helsinki must be aware of the responsibility and consequences of such a move," it said.

Wha....?

There seems to be some confirmed reports that Brimstone is being used in Ukraine in surface to surface mode.

What the hell is military-technical

Yeah I've seen some footage showing them being fired but as you say not confirmed to be in Ukraine. I believe we did say we were sending them some Brimstone missiles though.

Putin needed a blanket over his thighs and knees at the military parade on Monday. It was 9c. Not even the geriatrics of the politburo did that in the much colder month of November.

Is Putin Sick – Or Are We Meant to Think He Is?

An oligarch close to the Kremlin was recorded on a tape saying the president is ‘very ill with blood cancer.’ Is this true, idle speculation or disinformation designed to make an erratic and paranoid dictator vulnerable?

Somewhat bolstering the fact that Yuri’s allegation is now widespread in the elite corridors of Moscow is the fact that on March 13, a top-secret memo was dispatched from the Lubyanka, the headquarters of the FSB, Russia’s domestic security agency, to all regional directors of the FSB.

“The memo instructed the regional chiefs not to trust rumors about the president’s terminal condition,” Christo Grozev, the head of investigations at Bellingcat, a forensic research website famous for unmasking Russian spies and assassins, told New Lines. “The directors were further instructed to dispel any rumors to this effect that may spread within the local FSB units.

According to a source at one of the regional units who saw the memo, this unprecedented instruction had the opposite effect, with most FSB officers suddenly coming to believe that Putin indeed suffers from a serious medical condition.” As in the bad old days of the Soviet Union, nothing is believed until the state says it’s a malicious falsehood.

Russian battalion devastated as it crosses river

The Russian army lost almost an entire battalion at the weekend in an attempt to cross a river in eastern Ukraine.

More than 70 tanks and armoured fighting vehicles were estimated to have been destroyed and possibly 1,000 soldiers killed in a single set of strikes by Ukrainian forces.

In what has been described as some of the heaviest fighting of the war, artillery bombardments and air strikes devastated the battalion as it used a pontoon bridge to try to cross the Siverskyi Donets River on Sunday.

Seems like Macron and Scholz are making strawberry floating clowns of themselves in Europe. Suggesting Ukraine give up territory so Putin can save face, if you can believe such a thing.

Worked well in 2014 didn't it. strawberry floating clowns.

I think it's a great idea, Ukraine allows Putin to keep Provence and Saxony.

Edit: Having read some news articles, he is worried that if Russia is treated the way the Allies treated Germany at the end of WW1 (that lead to the rise of Hitler) things may be a lot worse than WW2 long term. I think its bollocks.

Turkey might be an issue. Throwing around nonsense about Finland and Sweden harbouring terrorists. Give Erdoğan some cash and he'll probably approve it.

If ever there was a reason to have another Russian revolution:

McDonald's has said it will permanently leave Russia after 30 years and has started to sell its restaurants there.

The move comes after it temporarily closed its 850 outlets there in March.

The fast food giant said it made the decision because of the "humanitarian crisis" and "unpredictable operating environment" caused by the Ukraine war.

The chain opened in Moscow in 1990 as the Soviet Union was opening its economy to Western brands and its exit carries similar symbolic weight.

The company said it was now pursuing the sale of all its restaurants in Russia to a local buyer and intended to start the process of "de-arching" the sites so they no longer use the McDonald's name, branding and menu.

However, it said it would continue to keep its trademarks in Russia.

McDonald's said owning a business in Russia was "no longer tenable" or consistent with its values.

The chain said its priorities included seeking to ensure its 62,000 employees in Russia continued to be paid until any sale was completed and that they had "future employment with any potential buyer" .

He won't of course, but Putin should really reflect on the fact that strawberry floating McDonald's are more humanitarian than him.

The McDonald's in my wife's home town has a beautiful view of the River Volga. I shall miss going there (if I ever get to go to Russia again).

They're just saying that so they can get something out of it. I'm sure they'll be a few backroom meetings to sort it out.

I bet the stairs leading out of the building are awfully slippery at this time of year.
