It was grand until that completely ridiculous last 10 minutes, I had no idea what any of them were on about  Although I don't get why the daughter did all that and why Joanna Lumley took a picture of the body through the keyhole, that made no sense at all

Thought it was pretty bad myself.

They didn't even explain who strangled Joey in the quiet room.

I think that next time they actually need to read the script thoroughly and any time a significant plot point or event happens ask "Does this make sense?" or "Why is this happening?"

I didn't realise it until Kanbei actually pointed it out but taking a photo of the inside of the room through the keyhole doesn't make any sense at all. You wouldn't think you would need to take a photo.

The whole mystery was pointless in itself, there never actually appeared to be any suspects and there was nothing to gain from doing any of it.

Limiting Mayall to a souped up wheelchair as well :fp:

Thought that was pretty poor. I'm sure it used to be more...serious. Most of it was laughable, particularly the end. WTF.

The girl is just annoying as well. She needs to piss off ASAP.

Overall that felt a lot like a sequel to Danse Macabre, with two bodies going into a locked room but only one coming out. Except this time you could see both of their faces.

There were also plenty of other nods to previous episodes, particularly a couple to the Grinning Man where they quickly rules out secret panels or weaknesses in the floor. The trangendered person was also a nod back to Rik Mayall's other episode Black Canary where Jonathan was unsure if his partner was a man or woman.

So Gideon Pryke is now paralyzed from the next down except for one finger. I love that it doesn't stop him at all, he still miracoulsly travels upstairs, into the woods, and even thwarts the bad guys at the last minute when the situation is looking dire. His reason for being paralyzed was also quite funny - He got shot by a sniper while saving a puppy from the Chinese Embassy!

I wasn't a big fan of Joey in the previous episodes but she was actully quite good here, but still no match for Maddie.

So, the main mystery itself I thought was very good. The motives didn't make a huge amount of sense, but mechanically the trick was very satisfying and delightfully simple. There were a few clues dotted about too, so that it's didn't come completely out of nowhere.

The main issues the recent specials have had is that David Renwick no longer trusts the audience to stick with a single mystery for 90 minutes. Even in this episode he mentions the solution being a big letdown once you know how a trick is done. So we get an extra, slightly weaker, mystery with the school kids, and then 15 minutes of cheesy government cover-up at the end, which isn't needed.

So good episode overall, and best of the three recent specials, but the 90 minute format once again spoils it slightly. I have high hopes that the three one hour episodes they are making in the year will not have the same issues.

It was the dirty cop/government guy. His comb was the metallic jangly noise that they could hear.

Nah, it's never been serious. David Renwick is a comedy writer (he did One Foot in the Grave) and most of the cast are comedians.

Well yeah, I know it's had a lighthearted side to it, as I've seen every episode. More...believable, was perhaps what I should have said. Realistic.

I didn't like that episode at all. It tried to be too clever and the plot fell apart. I thought the humour was fine though, it's always been like that.

It used to have dark comedic elements, the odd funny one liner or situation but can't recall it ever resorting to slapstick (and strawberry floating awful slapstick) like a guy in a wheelchair beating up government hitmen.

Thought it was thoroughly awful, the whole concept of committing a crime to cover up an accident was utterly ludirous. The second 'mystery' at the end was just embarassing.

It's actually quite easy to find moments like that, but the first that came to mind was this: http://youtu.be/3rKjc2xCYDE?t=38m51s

House of Cards and Borgen writers to collaborate

House of Cards author Michael Dobbs has revealed he is working on a "very major project" with the creator of Danish political drama Borgen.

The Conservative peer said the project had "a pretty good pedigree" and would "hopefully be on BBC screens" in 2014.

Dramatised by the BBC in 1990, Dobbs' House of Cards novel recently inspired a US remake starring Kevin Spacey.

Borgen, created by Adam Price, tells of a politician who becomes Denmark's first female prime minister.

Lord Dobbs confirmed to Sunday's edition of The World This Weekend on Radio 4 that he had "got together" with Price to work.

No details of the collaboration were forthcoming, though the author and politician did express an interest in telling the "real story" of Denis Thatcher.

"What a brilliant, brilliant character to base a play on," he said of Margaret Thatcher's late husband, describing him as "misunderstood" and "wonderfully strong".

The original House of Cards told of a conniving chief whip, played by Ian Richardson, who uses duplicity and guile to have himself elevated to the post of Conservative prime minister.

The US remake, produced by the online streaming service Netflix, stars Kevin Spacey and relocates the action to Washington DC.

House of Cards + Borgen = :D :P

Hopefully not about Denis Thatcher though.

I stupidly only started watching it properly two episodes before the end but yeah it's good. Quite transparently a ripoff of The Killing but it's comfortably better than the actual American remake.

Been re-watching Blackadder.

Goes Forth = II > The Third >>>>> The Blackadder.

Never managed to get through all of series 1 due to not liking it.

Having caught up with every episode of Broadchurch today, I'm pretty sure the murderer is Olivia Colman's husband. Hopefully they don't try and link in Tennant's unsolved case as that'll be a bit contrived and it's a good setup for season 2.
