Most wil agree with you. I am just struggling with it. Probably due to cop show overkill. Little annoyances are getting to me.

That's possibly why I'm enjoying it so much, as it's been a very long time since I watched a decent British cop show (I guess Luther is the only other current one I've seen). The last few years my favs have been The Killing and The Bridge, but they both have a certain formula that you soon get used to. Line of Duty feel refreshing to me, and I find it quite unpredictable.

Ran just started on BBC 4. (I say 'just', it started at 10.30 PM.)

http://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/ma ... -king-lear

Akira Kurosawa's epic masterpiece is a reworking of Shakespeare's King Lear set in medieval Japan.

After a lifetime of battles, 70-year-old Lord Hidetora announces that he is passing his authority to his eldest son Taro. The youngest son Saburo protests and is banished from the kingdom. But instead of fulfilling their father's wishes, eldest brother Taro, now in charge, and his middle brother Jiro are disloyal to the former lord and attack his castle. Hidetora survives, but, following his sons' betrayal, is now losing his mind. When Jiro has his brother murdered, the banished Saburo and his allies return to fight a battle against the remaining brother.

In Japanese with English subtitles.

I missed out on watching Ran in Bradford film museum, I would have loved to have seen it on the big screen. I have however bought the bluray.

A new Jonathan Creek special is currently being filmed!

Alan Davies will return as amateur sleuth Jonathan Creek for a one-off special on BBC One later this year.

The 90-minute episode, the first since 2014, will again star Sarah Alexander as Jonathan Creek's wife Polly, as well as a host of big names, including Warwick Davis, Emun Elliott and Rosalind March.

Written by David Renwick and titled Daemons' Roost, the episode is about a veteran horror film director called Nathan Clore, who is paralysed after a stroke, and who lives in the same house as a 19th century sorcerer who would summon the powers of Hell to torment his victims.

Filming of the latest episode has only just got underway and there is, as yet, no confirmed date for broadcast.

Is the plot twist that he's not paralysed?

Not all that excited given how inexcusably poor the last 5 or so episodes have been. If they can get back to the level of Satan's Chimney I'll be impressed.

Yeah it's never got close to the quality of the first three series, but I thought the last few episodes were an improvement over the previous three specials.

It's been a couple of years and they're only making one episode this time so I am hopeful that it will be alright.

I must say I felt totally the opposite. Of the specials I really liked The Grinning Man and the one about the thumb. The Judas Tree was tosh. But when watching the last three eps I began to feel like the quality had dipped to S4 Seer of the Sands level.

I haven't re-watched the last three since they aired but I remember liking Rik Mayall's return and felt the directing was improved with David Renwick stepping down from the director's chair.

On the other hand there was no Adam, and Creek was married and no longer working as a magician's assistant. I think i'll need to re-watch the recent eps at some point.

Did anyone watch the first episode of Planet Earth II? strawberry float me, it was outstanding.

The snake & baby iguana section was the easy highlight. This is the stuff of strawberry floating nightmares. :dread:

Image

Incredible visuals and soundtrack all 'round. Wish I could watch it in 4K somehow.

David Attenborough.

That snakes scene was one of the most incredible documentary scenes I've ever seen. Terrifying.

According to the behind-the-scenes footage, the snakes weren't even hunting in packs as it seemed. It was literally every snake for themselves. Selfish banana splits!

:dread: :dread: The camera man just sitting there nonchalantly. I'd gooseberry fool a strawberry floating brick if I saw dozens of snakes emerge like that.

Episode 2 was terrific as well. So many highlights; the eagle fight  the bobcat faceplanting in the snow. the bearboogie and the music they played alongside it  the flamencos dancing and the entire Snow Leopard part. :( Did anyone else feel that the ducks were laughing at the bobcat when he was strawberry floating up at hunting? It sure sounded like it. Pure trolls, these strawberry floating ducks.

Anyone catch episode 6 (the finale) of Planet Earth II? It was stunning. I didn't think the Cities episode would be all that great but it ended up being one of the best. Especially great were the birds in Milan and the zooming city montage of Hong Kong (I think). That gooseberry fool was amazing. Singapore also looks like a strawberry floating incredible place to visit. The man-made trees, holy gooseberry fool!

The baby turtles was such a depressing way to finish. :( That was absolutely heartbreaking.

Attenborough.
