Isn't Nathan Fillion a bit too old and out of shape to be playing Nathan Drake?

edit: Not really out of shape as such, but not the right build at all.

This is the reason why I have no faith in a Mass Effect movie... and the reason why I should never get excited by the prospect of a game-based movie.

speedboatchase wrote:No-one has heard of Uncharted outside of videogame circles so casting Nathan bloody Fillion (so tired of seeing his name crop up for every fanboy role) would've been commercial suicide. Predicted it'd be Wahlberg because of his ties to the director and personally I think it's an ok choice, anyone that's seen The Other Guys knows that Wahlberg has pretty surprising comedy chops but whether or not he's charismatic enough is another thing - I would've looked at Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper or Josh Holloway

Thats complete nonsense.

For one Mark Wahlberg is hardly a massive box office draw and for second him being completely wrong for the role will likely make the film unwatchable...and a massive flop, actual commercial suicide.

Watch The Departed

That said I'm not sure he is actually the right man for the job.

I've seen The Departed. He was good in it. He was only in it for like 20 minutes throughout though. Nuff said.

Not a bad choice. But far from the best that could have been made.

So a lot of people aren't too happy over the fact that Mark Wahlberg is playing Nathan Drake in the new David O. Russell film "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune." Regardless, this sucker is still going ahead in pre-production and Russell wants to spill more information on how the adaptation of the video game will turn out.

The story is centered on Nathan Drake (Wahlberg) and his journey to find the lost treasure on a far-away island. That's basically it in a nutshell, and there isn't too many characters to deal with. Well, that is until Russell decided to do otherwise. He wants to put this sub-plot of an extended family joining along for the ride.

"This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and meets out justice," he said.

"We'll have the family dynamic, which we've done in a couple of movies now," he said. "And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That's a really cool idea to me."

Why am I for some reason reminded of "Journey to the Center of the Earth?" Oh God, please don't let this turn out to be 3D.

They're hoping to churn out a finished product of "Drake's Fortune" pretty quickly for Sony Pictures, especially since Russell is halfway done with the script. Let's see how this all turns out once production goes underway, and here's hoping it's at least decent.

How can movie studios miss the point so often? Remember Street Fighter? Imagine those studio meetings: Exec1:"so who are the popular characters in this video game?" exec2: "Ryu and Ken, they are students from the same master, Ken has spent his life preparing the defeat Ryu, whilst Ryu has spent his life fighting the darkness within" exec1: "Ok but how about we throw them out? And have Jeanne Claude Van Daam as that American with big hair and Kylie as the English spy?"

Isn't that Indiana Jones he's described there? I mean, literally.

Bah. Wahlberg can act, see Boogie Nights. However, his acting 'skills' wouldn't really be required for a substandard Indiana Jones knockoff.

Oh boy, I hope we end up with some HILARIOUS scenario where one of his kids gets kidnapped and drake has to give up the treasure in exchange for getting the kid back. While his wife nags him along the way.

His teenage daughter is all miserable and doesn't want to get involved with the family business. She's fed up of moving from school to school especially since she met Brad and will now have to leave him to. She has to make a life changing decision at the end of the movie which brings her closer to her Dad and affects their FAMILY DYNAMIC forever.
