Inspired by the general malaise for Apocalypse Now that I noticed in the Last Film thread, what opinions do you have about movies that are not popular?

I’ll start us of with a fairly tame one and unload my true madness in a little while.

Life of Brian is not very funny. In fact, it’s not very good at all.

I've never found any Monty Python funny to be honest.

LOTR is pretty dull (although I suspect that's a fairly "popular" unpopular opinion).

Skyfall is a turd of a film. In fact, there aren't many great James Bond films.

I can't stand ANYTHING animated/all CG. It doesn't matter how good the plot is, the genre, how funny, how gritty, how realistic, whatever, I just can't enjoy a feature length animated or CG film.

Life of Brian is fairly popular, and so is Monty Python as a whole?

So is the thread for 'unpopular opinions about well-known films'? Like The Godfather is shite (it isn't). Or 'opinions about unpopular films'? Like, Jennifer's Body is pretty good.

Maybe I'm just reading it wrong.

EDIT: It's the former I think. I can't read good.

Opinions on films which aren't shared by many other people.

Heat is a steaming pile of dog gooseberry fool. Thinks it's cool but it's just cheesy, cliche and boring.

I've only ever seen Apocalypse Now once and wasn't overly impressed at the time. It was quite a while ago and I'm planning on watching it again soon so that may change now that I'm older.

I thought Life of Brian was funny when I watch it around my early teens. Watched Holy Grail when I was in my mid-20s and thought it was rubbish.

Looking at IMDB top 100:
Shawshank is good, don't think it's best ever.
Godfather 2 is nowhere near as good as the first.
I've always thought Pulp Fiction was overrated.
Wasn't overly impressed with Goodfellas (only seen it once). Thought Casino was better, which is a lot lower down the list.

Star wars has never really been that good, and it's only the art direction and being starved of any new content that carried the hype through. The prequels exposed this, and now we're beyond saturation point thanks to Disney, it's become clear that a lot of the love is nostalgia based and as a whole, it's all just a bit gooseberry fool.

Ah right. Here are the first that come to mind then, that just so happen to be associated with beloved childhood franchises:

- The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot (2014) was actually pretty good. I avoided it for ages because of the design of the turtles but when I watched it I really enjoyed it.
- The recent Power Rangers (2017) film was really good and thoroughly deserved a sequel.

Other than that I think the following are really over-rated films

- The Big Lebowski
- Blade Runner
- Fight Club

I thought Star Wars Episode 9 was a return to form after the the previous 2.

I think Solo is the most enjoyable Star Wars film in the entire franchise.

Mulholland Drive was utter drivel (i'm a Twin Peaks / David Lynch fan).

+1 for Big Lebowski being gooseberry fool (Or at least not as good as a lot of people would have you believe). Genuinely didn't enjoy it.

Same for Scarface. Just thought it was gooseberry fool.

I've never managed to make it through the fifth element, I just don't enjoy it. Must have tried 4 or 5 times to watch it and just got bored.

I also didn't think much of the big lebowski, made it maybe 3/4 of the way through and wasn't laughing at all so turned it off.

They are decent films, just not as amazing as the hype led me to believe. I can see the merit, but I didn't particularly enjoy them. Hence over-rated in my book.

Star Wars is garbage. All of them.

The only Good Spiderman Movie is Into the Spider-Verse.

Agreed on Big Lebowski, it's not gooseberry fool or anything but there is definitely a disconnect between how average it is and how amazing some people would have you believe it to be!

La La Land was a fairly recent "what's the fuss all about?" one for me. Again it's far from terrible but was not in any way deserving of the praise it got
