This is brilliant!

I think I'm on chapter 6, probably more than half way through and I've definitely killed 2 of my people, and 3 others I think are likely dead

The story is much more interesting that I expected, it is (purposefully) a bit cheesy and full of cliches but not as much as I thought it'd be.
Piecing together clues is good fun as each one reveals a tiny bit more backstory and I like how finding one clue can sometimes add new information to another clue you had already found.
The totem system also works well and has got me out of a couple of tricky spots.

Loving the resident evil camera angles, and that if you go back to the same location again later the camera angles will be different and you might spot something you didn't see before.

Also the choices really do appear to affect things. One small comment I made led to the death of a character an hour or two later. In the menu you can trace back exactly what it was that caused the death.
It's definitely going to be worth playing again and making different decisions.

Yeah, the complete lack of any kind of control customisation beyond "do you want to play with motion controls or standard controls" is a bit disappointing. Do the voices sound like they've been recorded in a bathroom for anyone else, too? Something about them doesn't sound right...

Loved it. Truly an 'interactive movie'.

Spoilers:
Matt, Emily and Sam survived. Bummed out that Mike died at the end :(

Finished!
That was incredible, and just kept getting better as it went on.
It was a good length too. I thought it might have been shorter because of the multiple choices, but it wasn't.

Easily my favourite game of this genre.

My survivors:
All the blokes died, all of the women survived :datass:

I really loved the 'don't move' mechanic. Some of those final scenes were intense!

Of course, I caved and bought it. Funny thing is, I don't hate myself for having done so. It really is a great experience; definitely the best 'interactive CG movie' I've ever played and it really is true that you can affect the plot so many ways with just a single decision that will come back to haunt you.

So far, on my first play-through, through my own bad decision-making I've managed to kill both Jess and Matt. Really gutted I got Matt killed. Oh, and this game is gruesome. :dread:

It's incredibly easy to miss entire portions of the game with the decisions you make - you just won't see a good part of the game on the disk on any single playthrough. No two playthroughs I've watched on YT have been entirely the same, sometimes quite completely different. Character models are outstanding, but facial expressions can sometimes be unintentionally comedic. Frame rates sometimes vary, but overall the presentation is top-notch.

Also, I got the steelbook edition from Game (which was news to me - I just ordered the game and the steelbook turned up in the post) - apparently contains an 'extended version' of the standard game. Which is nice.

Was really tempted by this last night while my brother was round, but £50 for the digital version when I can get it for at least £10 cheaper physically? strawberry float off Sony.

You can get it digitally for less than £40-ish, if you don't mind jumping through hoops by setting up a U.S. PSN account.

It's how I got the Last of Us remastered just for £8.99 via CD Keys. You can get US PSN top up via CD Keys too.

Just finished it, but will definitely play through again.

Everything was going okay until the last two hours. I had only lost Matt up until that point. I finished with just two survivors - Sam and appropriately enough, Chris.

I finished my first play through tonight. 3 dead, 5 survivors. Could have done better.

I know why Matt died, can't figure which mistake led to Jess dying and there seems to be no way to prevent Josh eventually meeting his maker - or worse.

Great game. Much better than it has any right to be on paper. Well done all involved.

It might have played out differently for me, but when Jess died she was being chased through the mines and I was given the choice between 'Hide' and 'Try to Run'. I foolishly chose the second option and she promptly had her jaw ripped off. :fp:

This has piqued my interest but I wanted to check a couple of things first:

Fear factor: In terms of scariness, is it Outlast scary (in that I won't make it past the first 20 minutes) or teen horror movie scary (in that things might be scary for a while but, hey, the lights will be on in a couple of hours so don't sweat it)?

Multiple endings: From what very little I've read about it, it sounds like more than one playthrough is required. How long is does it take, roughly, to get through?

My gaming time is limited so playing a game more than once is a rarity. This usually leads to me agonising over every decision required in a game like this as I won't get to play it again. I'd like to enjoy this on the knowledge that playing through again will be doable. From those that have completed it, does this sound possible?

One last question, what's the cheapest this is going for?

Thanks in advance! :)

It's not really 'scary', but they throw a lot of jump scares at you early on so you are on edge and expecting scares around every corner. More teen slasher or Final Destination type of scares than pure horror.

It prob took me about 10hrs but i was exploring every area. Once you finish you can go back and play individual chapters to see how things play differently but your original choices will remain. So if you killed a character early on then you would need to play through entirely from where they died if you want to complete with them alive, and they would be dead again on further playthroughs on that save.

It's not really a horror game - much more of a teen slasher in the style of Cabin In The Woods/Friday 13th, etc.

My first playthrough took around 10.5hrs - but I play slowly and carefully (I have to investigate everything :fp: ). Some people have 'finished' the whole thing in 5 hrs (possibly even less).

Honestly, the game has tons of potential for replayability. On any given playthrough you will not see all the content the game has to offer (I've watched YouTube playthroughs where I know for a fact entire sections have been totally missed by the player, because of their choices). You can replay to try and save everyone by making different choices; likewise you can opt to just kill everyone.

Yeah, it is a teen slasher. But much more gorey than you would see in Cabin in the Woods/Friday the 13th in certain sections.

One of my mates are raving about this, and he's usually not a huge horror fan.

He said I would love it. Apparently it's like "The Telltale Walking Dead Games - Zombies x the Saw film series." (How he would know? He barely made past 5 minutes into Saw II and never watched the rest. :slol: )

Now sitting here, waiting for that dispatch email from Shopto.

Yep, the game does seem to delight in gore; but even then it's still in the vein of schlock-horror. This isn't a psychological horror game (i.e. not genuinely scary or disturbing). It can be quite tense, though. Those jump-scares and abrupt QTE's (with (sometimes) dire consequences for messing them up) certainly keep you on your toes throughout. Watching a favourite character you have tried to keep alive suddenly meeting their grisly end because of one poor decision is a bit of a downer. I was royally miffed when, for instance, Matt met his end on my playthrough. There is no way to replay a section without starting the whole game again (until you have done at least one entire playthrough of the whole game - at which point 'episodes' become replayable from the main menu).

My next playthrough will be solely to try and keep Matt alive until the end. I'm starting to suspect I know where I went wrong first time...

It's dispatched!

Hope it arrives tomorrow, but I kinda doubt it.

Thanks for the replies, folks, that's me convinced :)

I've been playing 50 hour epics for months so it'll be nice to get into something that's a bit less demanding.

Let the slaughter commence! Or not!

I've started this yesterday.

That doctor bloke is sure creepy. It's the way he smiles and smirks at you. :dread:

Now... I'm going to smirk at you... soon. Heh! How do that make you feel?
