They didn't protest en masse this way when the UK welcomed other dodgy world leaders, even though some have been far worse than the US president.

I respect their right to protest, but the hysteria surrounding Trump is completely ott and the people in charge of that balloon seem to be the biggest babies of all.

Utter rubbish.

Trump is President of the USA. A supposedly democratic, free nation that encourages free speech and tolerance. Supposedly Britain’s greatest ally. Supposedly the leader of the free world.

There is a vast difference between protesting against a demagogue that is subverting American democracy and protesting against the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia (to use an example that came up previously).

And the hypocritical crybabies are not the ones who have made a humorous balloon to fly at a protest, the real hypocritical crybabies are the ones who for the last few years have been crying about freedom of speech and moaning about snowflakes and who are now up in arms that a Muslim mayor dared sign “ok” on peaceful protesters flying a balloon.

What a a complete load oh wahtaboutism bolllocks

It completely ignores the context of Trump, the USA and the US/UK US/EU US/World relations.

Which other "ally" has attacked London, Birmingham and the wider UK on a similar basis?
Which other "ally" champions a policy that separates children from cages?
Which other "ally" is rolling back hard won protections for a swath of minorities. taking the a progressive culture back decades?
Which other "ally" is threatening global recession with an unnecessary trade war with punitive tarrifs on topics he clearly doesn't understand?
What other ally in a "free and democratic" country is inspiring violence against journalists?
Which other visitor is Putin's cock holster and threatened to distablise Nato?
and so on and so on

Tell me which other "dodgy" visitor is anywhere near as bad when put into context

Why the strawberry float is everyone so wound up by a balloon? Its just a protest! Snowflake central!

In all seriousness - this an American leader. Our biggest partner in world politics.

We come to expect shitty leaders from other countries, but the leader of the free world - the most powerful man on the planet? I'm sorry - but I don't think its OTT at all. In fact, I don't think its protest enough, clearly so given the pandering by the press. Trump is a racist, hes a fascist, and just because hes white and been on the telly some people can't get it into their heads. I enjoy seeing the message being rammed home. Hes the biggest threat to our way of living in centuries. People seem to think because he shares some views on Brexit that hes 'their guy'. Hes the biggest enemy to Brexit you can possibly imagine! Hes not going to give you a deal even if it IS a hard Brexit, and even if he does, its going to be the shittiest screwjob ever.

God sakes, I'm so fed up of people focusing on gooseberry fool that DOES NOT MATTER. A RACIST REALITY STAR HAS HIS FINGER ON THE BUTTON FOR NUKES. I'll take some protests thankyouvertymuch.

You know the Olympics was probably a catalyst for this.

It made people super proud of the UK and England boosting patriotism which helped the we are awesome and we don't need anyone else message of leave and such.

The Olympics where we celebrated Mo Farah and Jess Ennis? I don’t think it had much to do with the shitstorm that has happened since.

The gooseberry fool in the UK and US has been bubbling away for a long time, Farage and his ilk have been there undermining things in the UK, the likes of Bannon and Alex Jones have been doing the same in the US. 2016 was when they finally got their way and unleashed their filth all over the Western world.

It isn't a major cause but it certainly helped, it caused people to thing "we rule" and feel proud, so when someone is feeding that feeling and pushing it more it gets "normal" people behind the cause not just the usual hateful gooseberry fool head.

As I say deffo not a major factor but it helps as it boosted the "proud" feeling they played on.

The Trump balloon has been deflated. Couldn't keep it up for very long.

All this hoo-ha over a relatively small balloon that was up and down all before lunchtime. Bloody ridiculous.

The way everyone was going on you'd think it was going to be the size of the Goodyear blimp, flying up above Westminster for the entirety of the day.

I've learned to steer well clear of politics when talking to my parents/in-laws. It's frightening what people who you respect and have previously felt aligned to can suddenly surprise you with.

My parents were firm Obama supporters, I even got them one of the iconic Hope posters from the 2012 re-election campaign and they framed it and put it up in their living room, where it hangs still. They're quite ardently against Trump, whom they say isn't necessarily stupid, but makes all his decisions on childish whims.
