Biden is 75. The other Democrat hope appears to be Sanders (who isn’t a member of the party) who is 77.

Why would anybody want a President who will turn 80 during their first term? Are there no younger Democrat politicians that can inspire people?

Oh, there are several, but I think Biden really, really regrets not running in 2016.

Next nominee needs to be someone that has no association with Obama or Hillary and ideally they should have no involvement with the campaign, no endorsements and also someone that isn't the wrong side of 65.

Senator Kamala Harris of California has been mooted a couple of times. It’d be a hell of a win for minorities if she got in too.

Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand, though the latter's long-standing connection to the Clinton family is already proving troublesome (so much attack ad fodder in those photos with Bill), despite her publicly burning that bridge some time ago. Klobuchar distinguished herself in the Kavanaugh hearing last week, so I wouldn't rule her out at all.

For the men, Cory Booker also looks like a strong choice, as does rising star Beto O'Rourke, should he lose his race against Ted Cruz. If O'Rourke can topple Cruz, his presidential ambitions will more than likely be put on hold until later - in the 20s or 30s. I'd like to see Julian or Joaquin Castro of Texas run too, but their names aren't being thrown around right now (could be waiting to see how O'Rourke fares) - if they ever do run, it probably won't be soon.

The primary field is going to be Republican-style huge on the Democratic side. Elizabeth Warren is looking into running (decision to be made post-midterm), and is building up a grassroots organization right now to do it, and John Hickenlooper is a shoe-in to try too. O'Malley may give it another try, too!

They did all that they reasonably could, under the circumstances, and let's face it, Hillary was always going to be on the ballot in '16, and she was always going to be the nominee. Sanders ran a great campaign but she had a built-in advantage from the get go. If she had won the election proper, the Senate would be facing a red wave that'd lock the Democrats out of the majority there for a generation or more, and the House would look similarly dire - leaving no hope for the upcoming redistricting processes to permit a righting of past wrongs. It'd be a lame duck first term, and you can bet she'd have a horrible time picking new SCOTUS justices that would appeal to anyone - McConnell even threatened to leave seats on the bench empty for 8 years, if I recall.

If they can flip the house, expect the Dems to launch a fuckton of investigations, including ones into Kavanaugh, Trump's taxes, immigration and more.

Everything hinges on the midterms at this point.

Quite honestly, I think Brexit being cancelled is more likely than the house being flipped. Too many people being fed incedibly evil and stong propaganda. The USA is some parts is becoming N.Korea-esque. Dirty liberals are apparently the enemy.

HoR might go but there's no chance the Dems will take control of the senate. They've got too much to defend.

The House is actually looking likely to flip - the odds are way better than even, though we have yet to see what impact Kavanaugh's confirmation will have on enthusiasm in either camp. The senate is tough for the Democrats this year, a good result there would be the status quo being maintained; maybe they win one from the GOP and lose one to them elsewhere.

Traditionally in times of hardship extremist views take hold - it happened during and after the depression with Roosevelt's hardline, almost fascist lock on the presidency, and it happened again after the turmoil of the 1970s and during the boom and bust period of the 1980s with Reagan taking over and keeping hold of the presidency in 1980 and 1984. The equivalent here is the Tory governments of the 1980s and this past seven or eight years, which both came in after extended periods of economic upheaval.

the US has seen ten years of tough economic climates and recession that's as bad as anything that's happened since the great depression as far as I can see. It's going to take some time to see them get out of the current wave of right wing populism, and frighteningly enough I'm not sure we've seen the worst of it yet. Trump's ascension and the two years of absolute political mayhem that have followed have divided the country worse than I've seen it in my lifetime. It's probably the worst it's been since the late 1960s.
