Walsh, who unsuccessfully challenged Trump for the 2020 Republican nomination, said: “I can tell you, publicly and privately conversations I’ve had, they’re scared shitless, all of them, any Senate Republican on the ballot. I mean, forget about Colorado, it’s done. Arizona is done. I think Maine is done. Joni Ernst in Iowa is almost done. Every race is going to be competitive. Democrat Doug Jones has got a fighter’s chance of winning in Alabama. Lindsey Graham is in serious trouble and they all know it.”

I don't think that Trump will win but saying Colorado and Arizona are going Dem and that Alabama is a battle ground is stretching things. I'm not surprised that the Republicans are worried about this sort of outcome though.

Bear in mind, often the point of these statements is to galvanize support for the "scared shitless" side, in this case the Republicans. This dude isn't just coming out and saying this for fun, it's an election tactic.

But he's a never Trump guy so I doubt he has much love for the Trump supporting members of his party.

Yeah these reports are all to increase republican voter turnout while reducing democratic voter turnout through complacency. It's a tactic that completely undermines democracy but it works. Happens over here too

I'm not sure how you figure increasing voter turnout undermines democracy.

I am still assuming Trump will get a second term so no way I'm getting hopeful of anything crazy.

That's not what he said. Party officials using their privileged connection to the media to release convenient stories - reported as fact - that essentially say "hoo boy, we're almost beat in (wherever)" undermines what democracy is supposed to be about, because that kind of tactic isn't about presenting policies to voters, it's purely about manipulating voter psychology.

The prevalence of this kind of mass-media propaganda in both the UK and the US make them extremely diseased "democracies." The ease with which insiders and the rich can manipulate the terms of political discourse is part of why Marxists describe liberal democracies as "dictatorships of the bourgeoisie".

We saw it work here with Brexit. In the days leading up to the vote Leave campaigners were playing the "we know we're not gonna win" card a lot. That eventually became accepted as fact by the public who got complacent and opted not to vote because they thought Remain had it in the bag. Conversely it lit a fire underneath Leave voters and the fencesitters leaning toward Leave to get out there and vote.

Rest is history.

Didn't a load of people not vote because of Glastonbury starting.

The biggest, most elaborate worldwide hoax to stop Trump from winning in November. SAD.

And slagging off FOX News again...

You'd have to be further right than Hitler to think Fox News is appeasing the radical left.

Have to say, if Americans stop watching Fox, that would be the best thing Donny will have managed is his tenure as President.

Robert E. Lee didn't want people to erect statues of Confederate generals, as he knew they would promote a festering division among the people, when what was needed was healing.

Naturally, that only lasted for as long as he lived.

Sometimes it’s the whole devil you know analogy as there’s another relatively new cable news network in the States called One America News that’s far worse than Fox News. It’d be a disaster if viewers then shifted over to them in big numbers.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump bought them out at some point and renamed it Trump News Network.

How do people like this live with themselves? Do they genuinely believe what they're saying?

Yep. The vast majority of Confederate imagery started in the 1910s onwards.

Confederate symbols and statues were not installed because people were celebrating their heritage but because they wanted to scare Black people.
