The Dems need to be careful that they don’t get blamed for the shutdown. Trump will be ramping up the rhetoric that the Dems are happy to let in “floods” of migrants and that it is them that are closing down the government.

They need to make it VERY clear that this is a Trump shutdown, not a Democrat shutdown.

True, but considering there's video of Trump ranting directly to Schumer claiming the shutdown as his own this shouldn't be hard*

It wouldn’t be the first time Trump claimed something, doubled back on it and got a free pass from the media.

The Dems just need to have an advert showing Trump when he said "I'd be proud to call it a Trump shutdown" on a loop.

The guy absolutely strawberry floated himself over and he needs to be buried by his own stupidity.

You know, of all things, the Syria pullout makes me think that Trump is under the command of Russia. Its been nicely buried with the shutdown and the Christmas break, but it basically gives Russia free reign in Syria.

He's played a blinder, Dems can't very well call for troops remaining in Syria as "bringing the troops home" is always seen as a good thing. But they should be making a fuss about the fact that boots were not on the ground there anyway, which was the Obama policy.

The Democrats can pull the "he's just empowered Iran in a way no nuclear deal ever could" card. Whether they will or not is another matter. They're not great at coherent messaging.

I'd like to see just how much he can screw over the country just to get a wall built to see how bad things have to get before his fans decide that maybe they've made a mistake in choosing a giant manbaby.
If I was the Dems I'd just call his bluff and let him strawberry float himself entirely.

They won't, it's like hsrdcore Brexit wonks. Everything and anything is worth it.

I think the tweet was just highlighting how Trump has had two years to sort things out, and hasn't.

Yeah I got that, it’s another in the endless line of examples of their being a Trump tweet for everything.

This is why I don’t think the Dems highlighting the Trump shutdown is going to work. Trump is nothing but a contradictory hypocrite in everything he says and does. His supporters don’t care.

It does seem we have reached a point in US politics where tribalism overrules all sanity.
It's why I had to finally stop posting on the USpolitics forum I used to frequent as it didn't matter what was said or how well (there were a few much more eloquent liberal posters than me who also finally just left) a point was made if it didn't fit the narrative of their side then it was pounced upon.

There was no room for nuance and I for instance am liberal in some things but conservative in others (I think having good safety nets for the poor is good and my highest priority for spending would be schools and I think having a relatively high tax rate (which is fair so the rich pay more than the poor) while at the same time I also think having lots of national debt is rather silly as eventually gooseberry fool will hit the fan) but this was seen as unacceptable as I should be a liberal or conservative not a wimpy middle grounder.

The phrase "Liberalism is a mental illness" was thrown around constantly and when I tried pointing out that the place had become a wild circle jerk I was pounced upon. The 2 party system has just turned many into mindless zombies who will follow whoever's at the top of the party like a hero and everyone who disagrees is denounced as a RINO (Republican in name only even if they've been a Republican in the senate or Congress for decades) at the first sign of dissent.

There's seemingly zero room for actual political debate other than our side is right and your side is stupid.

Warren isn't going to be President unless she takes the VP spot on a ticket with someone like Biden.

I'd prefer to see someone like Klobuchar or Harris announce their candidacy. Gillibrand would be good too, but a lot of people are still angry that she turned on Al Franken by calling for his resignation.

Luckily kids can't vote anyway so screw'em :shifty: .
I still think Boris Johnson should have kept his citizenship and gone for it just to have a battle of the shittiest haircuts election tussle.
