I read an article on CNN recently about a black man at a General Motors car parts plant in Toledo, Ohio, who, along with several black colleagues, faced over a year of racist intimidation and threats. Management did nothing. They quit out of fear for their lives after nooses started appearing in the workplace.

The entire management of that plant should be fired and the people responsible should be in court for making death threats.
I'm unsure how any workplace like that exists now as surely the morale of staff knowing gooseberry fool like that is allowed is going to go through the floor and productivity will just nosedive.
I suppose I may have been lucky as I've never worked at a place with obvious racism but I'd hope it would be sorted quickly unless management and HR are strawberry floating gooseberry fool.

Police: No footage yet showing ‘Empire’ actor being attacked

CHICAGO (AP) — Detectives have reviewed surveillance footage of “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett walking to his downtown Chicago apartment after an early morning visit to a Subway restaurant, but none of the video they’ve watched so far showed him being attacked, a police official said Wednesday.

Investigators “for the most part” can confirm the route Smollett took early Tuesday when he says he was attacked by two masked men along a street in the Streeterville neighborhood, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. However, there are gaps and none of the footage police have reviewed shows an attack, he said, noting that the review is ongoing.

Smollett, who is black and gay and who plays the gay character Jamal Lyon on the hit Fox television show, said the men beat him, subjected him to racist and homophobic insults, threw an “unknown chemical substance” on him and put a thin rope around his neck before fleeing.

Guglielmi said detectives who are investigating the allegations as a possible hate crime have looked at hundreds of hours of surveillance video from businesses and hotels in the heavily monitored area. But he said they still need to collect and view more. He said they are expanding the search to include footage from public buses and buildings beyond the scene’s immediate vicinity in the hopes of spotting the men who match Smollett’s description of the suspects.

“We haven’t seen anybody, at this point, matching the description he gave, nobody looks menacing and we didn’t find a container anywhere,” Guglielmi said, referring to a container for the liquid that the actor said was thrown at him.

Neither Smollett nor his publicist has spoken publicly about the attack.

Smollett, 36, returned to his apartment and his manager called police from there about 40 minutes later, Guglielmi said. When officers arrived, the actor had cuts and scrapes on his face and the “thin rope” around his neck that he said had been put there by his assailant, he said. Smollett later went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after police advised him to do so.

The FBI is investigating a threatening letter targeting Smollett that was sent last week to the Fox studio in Chicago where “Empire” is filmed, Guglielmi said. The FBI did not immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday, but Bobby Rush, a Democratic congressman from Chicago, issued a statement calling on the agency to conduct “an immediate and sweeping civil rights investigation into the racist and homophobic attack.”

Chicago has one of the most sophisticated and extensive video surveillance systems in the U.S., with thousands of cameras on street poles, skyscrapers, buses and in train tunnels.

Police say the cameras have helped them make thousands of arrests. In one of the best known examples of the department’s use of the cameras, investigators in 2009 were able to recreate a school board president’s 20-minute drive through the city, singling out his car on a succession of surveillance cameras to help them determine that he committed suicide and had not been followed and killed by someone else, as his friends speculated.

Hopefully for such a high profile story this doesn’t descend into a bent coppers (and boy would there now have to be a lot of them) vs. fabricated attack situation.

What I do find odd is the police giving almost a running commentary of the whole thing, which doesn’t help.

It's amazing just how much some Americans seem to hate the idea of holidays and seem to think taking them is unAmerican.
They will argue that taking the same number of holidays we do will somehow cripple the economy even though we somehow manage.

It really is quite amazing just what some of them think socialism actually is.

Yep, republicans go on and on about everyone being allowed to vote and then openly enact laws that prevent as many people they don't like from voting.
Also in the US gerrymandering has become a weapon to be used to make sure certain parties stay in power so in lots of places it's now almost impossible for the opposition to win.

Just the best democracy.

That's kinda the problem - large chunks of their voter base are dying

The GOP have focused on a declining voter base (either through death or through white blood being diluted) - so they'll have to resort to more and more tactics like this.

He's exactly the kind of man who would orchestrate the transition from representative constitutional democratic republic to oppressive one party dictatorship.

It often feels like that's what he wants.

He'll be behind the inevitable blockade of post-Brexit Britain by the US Trade Federation. Actions which, in a very boring and drawn out manner, will lead to the rise of the Empire.

Trump is basically Jar Jar Binks in this scenario.

I know you're joking, but that actually sounds like a somewhat plausible scenario to me. :slol:

The man is very intelligent, a fantastic tactician, and he is not on the side of democracy. His biggest donor is the Russian oligarch the US just ended sanctions on.

He really is a joke.
The fact that he's got supporters who're willing to think the entire FBI and justice department are corrupt rather than the possibility that Trump may just be a complete con artist just in if for himself is rather telling.
It really doesn't matter how many people around Trump get's thrown in prison it's all a conspiracy by liberals even if the judges chucking people in prison are republican they're RINO's and as such part of that conspiracy.

The facts don't matter only that the guy they like is in power.
