Car crashed into a Trump building lobby this evening. Unknown whether it was accidental or intentional.

20,000 people showed up to Elizabeth Warren's latest speech. New polling puts her ahead of the pack on voter enthusiasm. She's making the steadiest, strongest gains, and I believe the party is falling in love with her somewhat.

Yeah the bookies have had her as the favourite to get the Democratic nomination for a couple weeks now I think.

1) She's a woman
2) Alleged Native American heritage
3) Doesn't really appeal to the latinos

It will be fun seeing what the FBI can start investigating her for in October 2020.

She's currently 6% ahead in the polls although I could see Trump winning via the electoral college again.

1) Misogyny is a real problem, but not an insurmountable one.
2) Distant heritage. I'm sure Trump will dredge it all up if she becomes the nominee, but her signature policy is anti-corruption and it's a powerful, powerful message.
3) Beto or Castro could change that.

Trump is not the presumptive winner. That's horse gooseberry fool.

Never said he was, but those are significant barriers that Warren will need to overcome if she is to win those all important swing states.

Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister, wore brownface makeup to a party at the private school where he was teaching in the spring of 2001. TIME has obtained a photograph of the incident.

The photograph has not been previously reported. The picture was taken at an “Arabian Nights”-themed gala. It shows Trudeau, then the 29-year-old son of the late former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, wearing a turban and robes with his face, neck and hands completely darkened. The photograph appears in the 2000-2001 yearbook of West Point Grey Academy, a private day school where Trudeau was a teacher.

Earlier this month, TIME obtained a copy of the yearbook, The View, with the photograph of Trudeau in brownface from Vancouver businessman Michael Adamson, who was part of the West Point Grey Academy community. Adamson was not at the party, which was attended by school faculty, administrators and parents of students. He said that he first saw the photograph in July and felt it should be made public.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday night, following TIME’s publication of the photo, Trudeau apologized: “I shouldn’t have done that. I should have known better and I didn’t. I’m really sorry.” When asked if he thought the photograph was racist, he said, “Yes it was. I didn’t consider it racist at the time, but now we know better.”

Trudeau said he wore blackface “makeup” in high school to sing “Day-O,” a Jamaican folk song famously performed by African-American singer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte. “I deeply regret that I did that,” he said.

He was dressed up for Arabian Nights, that’s why it’s brownface and not blackface.

Do they also do yellowface? Is that a thing?

Seriously though, what is it with people in powerful positions and colouring their faces? :fp:

Yellowface is a thing, yes. Look at Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

He wasn’t in a powerful position when he did it, it was 18 years ago.

Brown/black/yellow face is not acceptable but this strikes me as more of a political hatchet job. Trudeau isn’t the wonderful “woke” human being that his image suggests but he isn’t a complete banana split like Trump or the other countless arsehole leaders we have around at the moment. Yes he did something bloody stupid/offensive in 2001, but since then he has made an effort to understand other races and cultures and he isn’t talking about building walls.

We need to get to a stage where if somebody has changed then we forget the stupid gooseberry fool they did in their youth. Because everyone does stupid gooseberry fool and everyone now has the evidence out there on the internet.

Agree with much of that sentiment but he was 29 at the time!
