I just read about a guy jailed in 1994 for selling weed to a police informant, and because he had legally owned guns in his own house he got done for felony possession of a firearm as well and got 60 years.

Weed has since been made legal in his state.

The US justice system is so bad it is beyond belief.

CNN just aired a hilarious video package of Trump promising action on stuff “in 2 weeks” and he’s been promising it for 4 MONTHS, and literally nothing ever gets done. It’s a running joke. The equivalent of telling the wife you’ll put the shelf up (in a year).

Pretty much nails it yeah, it doesnt matter what he does, its just important thats hes not "liberal". Depressing really.

Still, the US is not majority Republican voters. The moderates that went with Trump to 'shake up the sytem' will not do it again.

I guess destroying America themselves is worth the cost as it means "owning the libs". What a bizarre state of affairs that watching the country fall down around you is fine as long as you didn't show one ounce of compassion or care for another human being.

While the stat Swan is focusing on in that interview is *the* most important one for measuring a country’s effectiveness at dealing with the virus, it’s probably worth keeping in mind that Trump’s stat is also an important measure. It indicates both how effectively a country is testing for and treating the virus, and the UK is the third worst in the world in this regard.

Positive COVID cases in the UK leads to a COVID death in a staggering 15% of cases, versus 3% in the US. If you’ve tested positive here you are literally 5 times more likely to die than a person who tested positive there. Granted, there’s no way to discern whether that’s solely down to an absolutely embarrassing number of infections going untested here, or (more likely), a combination of that and the NHS not being able to provide the average COVID case the care they need.

So Trump has a *bit* of a point in that a each COVID case in the US isn’t the same as a case elsewhere. They look to be doing better than most in testing and treating. But they’re doing absolutely shite in terms of stopping it spreading

I think when it comes to death rates against known infections, its probably not a good way to compare nations. We don't have an adequate testing system in place here, infections are likely far higher. Also all nations tend to record Covid deaths different which can also make things a little muddy.

The bottom line from death per capita is that the UK has done badly and so has the US.
