I regularly manage my recommended videos and watch history on YouTube, it's the only way I can keep my recommendations focused on gaming, miniatures, TV shows etc rather than right wing political shite, conspiracies, clickbait and other crap the platform tries to keep pushing even though I have no interest in any of it.

The problem with YouTube is obvious. You watch one Tucker Carlson video and they’ll start recommending all sorts of wacky, conspiratorial stuff. I think it’s intentionally weighted (which, I guess, is also CONSPIRACY TALK) but it’s not like my TV home page recommends I ever watch PlayStation videos.

There was a report a while back that speculated that the reason conspiracy content is so quick to fly up the recommendations lists, is because the people who are genuinely into it, will sit and watch hours of it. The algorithm, as it was at the time, is geared to find videos that keep people watching longer, more eyes on screen for more time means more ad revenue, and so it erroneously concludes that conspiracy videos are good content that makes people want to watch for a very long time, so as soon as you show an interest in content that overlaps, politics, video games, pizza, you'd get flooded with recommendations for the most batshit conspiracy stuff.

Youtube said they've made changes to their algorithm, which is as close as you'll get to confirmation from them that the speculation was correct, but so long as a small number of nutters keep watching that stuff, it's going to keep cropping up unsolicited in other people's feeds.

I find it very worrying kids in particular are growing up watching and reading all this nonsense. It's making people extremely stupid. The earth wasn't flat on Microsoft Encarta!

Oddly my Facebook is largely politics free. I very rarely see anything political on there. Most of my friends are heavily left leaning, aside from a few old guys that I know from work. I'll see the odd political post from time to time from a far left friend of mine, but nothing too out there, just real vitriol aimed at Tory policy.

Twitter I tend to follow a lot of more US political accounts and really keep it varied. Similar with youtube, I like to follow left wing talking heads like David Pakman or Kyle Kulinski who are I find are very honest with their analysis. I find US left wing talking heads are pretty good, as politics is much further right in the US the hard left there actually seem more in line with UK Labour on the political scale so it's an easy watch. I do subscribe to a couple of right wing youtubers, but generally I find their content always feels so angry, to the point it isn't a pleasant watch.

Since Moggy posted that list I've started seeing loads of Fox news articles on my Facebook page.

So Jacob Blake. I see Megyn Kelly is reporting that Kamala Harris is "proud" of him. What is the truth around the warrant for the arrest? I've seen lots of rumours that he was accused of sexually assaulting his partner on the day of arrest, had a restraining order against him etc. But I don't think I have actually seen anything concrete from a major news source.

This isn't so much whether the shooting was justified (I don't think it was). Just that if those allegations are true, it doesn't seem to sit well for Kamala Harris to be praising him (if that actually happened too).

Megyn Kelly is almost always full of gooseberry fool, so I wouldn't believe a word she says.

Her shite works though, everyone will now see the smear on Harris and will forget any retractions/apologies.

Still, even if it is true, it's no excuse to shoot an unarmed man 7 times in the back.

I've seen wildly different accounts on what the scenario was that day. I don't trust any of them, as they've been pushed by people with that 'strawberry float him' mentality.

All the right wing rumour mill "he was no angel!!!" stuff is specifically designed to distract from the core issue of abusive, brutal cops. It's not worth giving any oxygen to.

Yep. They basically go for character assassination to defend it. There's a lot of false stuff flying around anytime something like this happens.

Yeah I don't trust Megyn Kelly. I can't understand why she would go into bat for Republicans after Trump insulted her in quite a vile manner, and Republicans basically pushed her out of the fraternity.

I'm inclined to believe that this is some weird kind of mischaracterisation as Dems have seemed quite reserved in the last few weeks when talking about the protests. I think they know it is something Trump will make a lot of fuss about and I can't see Harris actually making those comments in the context it has been reported.

It's because she's a far right lunatic. Trump being mean to her doesn't change that.

It's going to be so great when Trumps out of office and all the gooseberry fool he's done comes flooding out.

I honestly hope he ends up in prison.

Honestly I can't get my hopes up that Trump will be out. The polls have been completely wrong so many times recently.

However, if he does get kicked out, Biden absolutely has to launch investigations into illegality of his conduct in office. If he doesn't, it's just gutless. The full illegality of the Trump administration and his business practices need to be revealed.

The problem is that getting to the bottom of all the gooseberry fool Trump has been up to would be more work than any administration could likely achieve in any one term and they would probably get strawberry float all else done in that time!
