Who thought agreeing to be taped by Woodward was a good idea?

In the 1970s Woodward needed a secret informant with a code name.

In the 2020s the President is such an egotist that he'll tell you anything.

Trump was apparently still speaking to Woodward on the phone until at least June because Woodward's got him on record talking about BLM. If Woodward had immediately published in February he would have gathered a lot less information.

EDIT: The final interview was July.

Given that it's Trump he'll probably agree to be interviewed again in a couple of months.

Imagine being fine with a President or Prime Minister who spends all day watching telly :fp: .

If that's the future of the Supreme Court, the people must mobilize against it.

The US were force sterilising people well into the 1970s.

In fact Oregon last did it in 1981 and didn't abolish it until 1983.

The USA has always loved gooseberry fool like that.

The Tuskegee Experiment, MK Ultra, etc.

Oregon, it should be noted, is an almost entirely white state (something like 3% of the population is black), and when it was founded it was ostensibly illegal to be a black person there. It's the Deep South of the American west, a haven for former Confederates after the Civil War, and racism is endemic there.

The US is a measurably better country than it was in the 1970s, but in some very significant ways it is exactly as bad as it has ever been.

Tuskegee and MK Ultra were both horrible and needless, but I think I probably rank the forced sterilisation of migrants close to the top of my gooseberry fool list. As someone said in the Twitter thread, this surely meets the definition of ethnic cleansing.

Even as someone who knows all of this gooseberry fool and studies it and gets really involved in some of the nastier gooseberry fool that the US has been involved in over the last 100 years, it still makes for strawberry floating awful, shocking reading. I hope, from my own perspective, that it always will.
