I think I'd be able to get a fair few but I have a feeling Geography isn't important in the US.

Agreed, that is extremely annoying.

US tv would have you believe that the US is the whole world, and outside of that you have the holiday parks of Paris, Cancun and London. Eye rack is where the smelly people live and Russia is where the president lives.

That "name/identify a country" style vox pop has been done to death but it's still depressing how many idiots it manages to identify.

Thing is, they're propagandish in their own right, these Vox Pops. How many hours did they spend finding three people who don't know their arse from their elbow, and how many dozens or hundreds of people went past who could easily say "Mexico," or "Canada" or any country in South America, etc, before they found them?

That level of ignorance on world geography isn't going to be a uniquely American trait, even if it's probable that many Americans are on the whole much more ignorant and insular than others across the world.

Oh absolutely they will have picked the juiciest morons to stick in the video and if you looked at it statistically I would imagine that a majority of people they spoke to could name at least 1 country.

But I still imagine they didn't have to stand there long before they had enough footage of idiots!

Yeah I thought that they were only showing the proper thick people but I can't believe that I'd get one person that dumb is I stood around my local town all day and I live in Southend. How can you not know where your own country is on a map.

In their slight (slight) defence the show deliberately chose a pacific centered projection to make the map less familiar. That's probably why that person pointed to Russia and said it was the US.

Surely everyone knows where New Zealand is just because we've all watched Lord of the Rings 5 times and know it was filmed there.

Erm, that's being super generous.
The American continent is pretty obvious and should stick out like a sore thumb. It's understandable that Americans would be able to pick out individual European or Asian nations but again places like Australia should be pretty obvious and I'd say India should be as well.

I'd say most people should be able to identify the US and Canada though.

I do agree this is a pick of most likely the worst offenders though.
