It’s worth remembering ACB is a GOP ‘court packing’

Her current 7th circuit position should have been an Obama appointee but McConnel blocked them all

He blocked a good couple of hundred judicial appointments after 2014, IIRC. Now they claim not to know why Obama didn't fill them, breaking out the lazy black man racist stereotype.

Anyone watching the town halls? Biden has a deal with ABC and Trump has a deal with MSNBC, I lasted about 4 minutes of either before I figured waiting for the highlights in the morning was probably a better use of my time.

Biden is killing it, delivering substantive, nuanced answers, real policy talk, etc. He respects the question askers, doesn't get defensive, admits when he doesn't know something, rolls with it when the asker corrects him, and he's sincere in his answers.

Trump is blaming everyone he can, bullying the poor moderator, etc. Same old cunty Trump.

strawberry floating hell. The BBC headline is "Trump and Biden deflect key questions in town halls" :fp:

Biden was pretty honest and humble, admitting mistakes and stayed behind to keep answering questions with voters. He didn't commit to an answer on SC but Republicans are literally pulling hijinks on that right now.

Trump told the world he's $400m in debt, maybe with foreign banks and he believes there might be a satanic paedophile cult in Government.

There are heroes on both sides, evil is everywhere.

Edit: this next bit should be in the UK thread, but it's kind of applicable anyway

The BBC is a strawberry floating joke these days. Yesterday instead of calling out the government on their very current gooseberry fool, they instead ran what was a paid advert disguised as a feature on cliff side camping,

As I've said numerous times, the BBC has lost it's soul. Sky News is more honest than them at this stage, in fact by a long way.

I used to attempt defending the BBC but I honestly can't anymore. They've transitioned into full mouthpiece.

I spent years (YEARS!) defending the BBC but it's bloody hard nowadays. I'm wary of falling into the "they don't agree with me so they must be biased" trap the right wingers fall into though.

I think their problem is the obsession with balance and being unbiased. They've taken it to such an extent that they can't call out lies anymore as that would look like taking a side.

People like Laura K are almost impossible to defend though. She appears to be nothing but Dominic Cummings mouthpiece. "Sources say Starmer is a poopy poo head", strawberry float off Laura, either name your damn source or stop reporting what Cummings wants.

I did too, but the BBC in my opinion has significantly changed (for the worse) over the past 5-10 years.

They’ve changed massively in the last 5 to 10 years.

Mostly under the premise of balance but it’s ridiculous

Eg
can’t call a racist racist
Can’t call a liar a liar
Even air time to ‘both sides’ even if one if backed by basically all scientists and one by Aunt Karen from Facebook
Anti-Anti-Racism critics etc

From around 3 minutes 30 seconds:

That's how to do proper balance.

I'm not sure that really signifies a change though, there's always been some strategy of balance, it's just never been properly weighted.

The shift I can definitely feel is wanting to create controversy and drama with those debates with very little useful information actually provided to viewers/listeners to "make their own mind up".

Their coverage of the independence referendum up here shocked me right out of my previous belief that they were a trustworthy, unbiased news source.

They’re banned from Ibrox though so must be doing something right.

It really is the complete misapplication of "balance" that is ruining the BBC. I don't think they are institutionally biased to the right wing, but the right wing a) is more effective at abusing and weaponising the BBC's flawed policies and approach to balance, and b) has the greater balance of public discourse, media coverage and political representation, so the "middle ground" is shifted rightwards.

Like, I don't think the "senior government source" trick for thinly veiled government propaganda is something the BBC are active conspirators in (especially compared to right wing newspapers that obviously are), rather the government has found a way to game BBC reporting. They are still complicit and cannot be excused for it, but I think the way of fixing it is different. I genuinely believe the BBC has the capacity to review and self-correct in a way the right wing press has no interest in doing, but is cowed from doing so by government interference (and the threat thereof).

I think back in the days where I actively defended the BBC, my position was always "the BBC isn't biased but individuals there might be"

I think that fits well with the way Laura K is. The BBC probably aren't active conspirators with the Tory party, but Laura K almost certainly is.
