They got Trump elected in 2016 and I think they have been playing both sides in 2020.

They want a divided US government with no real power over policy, they want to cause confusion and mistrust. I think Obama was wise to it and he was genuinely great and putting in sanctions that hurt Russia. Trump went soft on them for obvious reasons.

The west needs to get wise to it and play Putin at his own game. He is the only one to have prospered internationally since 2016.

That seems to be an inflated sense of the importance of the United Kingdom. I don't doubt there's been Russian interference in our politics, and that it's strategic, but I'd imagine they'd be much more interested in the German, Chinese or possibly even Japanese governments as genuine rivals. British influence on the world stage has been in decline for 100 years. :shifty:

The brexit vote though presented Russia with a possible route to interfere with EU politics and stability. This would perhaps have presented them with a better opportunity than targeting say Germany. Also with the English language being the current world language it makes it far easier to spread misinformation around the world that countries like the UK and US are far more exposed to.

It is a kind of inflated view of the UK, however when it comes to the west, the rest of the world do (sadly) view the UK as some kind of equal to the US or the next best thing due to our imperial past.

We all know that Russia are interfering in elections. Surely that isn't beyond doubt?

My only hope is that Biden takes Congress and the presidency, because one thing I will say of the Obama era is that Obama was tougher on Russia than any president since Reagan. It used to be that republicans were against Russia, but there has been some kind of flip because now Democrats are the ones standing up for US interests against them.

To be fair, the stories could be how great she is live.

Trump has been enjoying his gay anthems on the rally circuit.

Dude, the UK haven't been viewed on an equal footing with the United States by any country since 1956 at the absolute latest. We are associated with them in world diplomacy through the "special relationship," but very much as a junior partner. Even former colonies started viewing the UK as a spent force by the mid-1950s, no longer a world superpower. Now China and Germany and probably Japan have passed the UK in prestige terms. I absolutely don't doubt that the Russians have interfered(or attempted to at least) in UK elections but as ROTS says, this is probably less to do with viewing the UK as a great rival and more to do with seeing the opportunity to wreak havoc in the EU.

Dems already hold the House so we're hoping they retain it(possibly even make gains), and also take the Senate as well, along with a decent sized Biden win. We'll have a much better idea in 24 hours time what's going on though...

Which Western countries do you think view the UK as an equal to the US? I think you're vastly overestimating how others see us.

Quite interesting to see the difference between early/postal voters and people who vote on the day.

That supports the idea that election night will look like a Trump win, but counting up all the early votes will swing the result to Biden winning.

Several states start counting early votes on election day, which will hopefully even that out.

I believe some states are, but IIRC can't release the results prior to the rest of the votes of their state.

I guess it's to avoid the risk of the early voting results being leaked.
