To be fair, America can't even maintain democracy in their own country

The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the light, the future is.

Luke, noooo. Why are people always so keen to fit everything into such absurdly simplistic little boxes? :|

And that's why he should be charged with war crimes for the murder of all the innocent contractors on the Death Star.

The US, famously staunch supporters of democracy abroad and definitely not right wing dictatorships. I for one have never even heard of the CIA or this so-called "South America"

CNN has now left Virgin Media (they’ve put a graphic up telling viewers just to watch BBC or Sky News instead…) but is currently still working via satellite (SD on Freesat, HD on generic or manual tune).

New episode of Common Sense with Dan Carlin is out now, about the ongoing Afghanistan situation. Gives context to what's going on, some details on it all; the inevitability of the messy extrication, etc. Worth a listen.

How has this Texan abortion law managed to come into effect? Roe v Wade provides women with a constitutional right to allow legal abortion to 12 weeks but this Texan law reduces it to 6 weeks.

Because the Republicans have a majority of Supreme Court judges. They opted not to block it.

One of those judges is in the far right Christian cult which inspired The Handmaid's Tale. I'm not joking.

If only the Democrats were in charge of the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate they could do something meaningful about this far right minority take over of the United States!

The problem is that they're not in charge of the White House and congress when it matters because democrat judges refuse to retire out of some absurd notion of them being above politics.

Problem with the Senate is Manchin is basically a Republican in disguise, which makes things difficult there.

The meaning of the constitution is what 5 votes says it is.

There's nothing stopping them from rectifying this and the rigged electoral system they routinely struggle against, except themselves. At some point voters will simply get tired of being told the singular method of change is through voting if these fights are still having to be fought.

Then a president from the same party should be able to strongarm someone who will derail their plans.

Manchin's someone managed to get routinely elected as a democrat in West Virginia which is deep Trump country. No-one else is doing that.
