I'm looking forward to reading this :)

Thank god Trump isn't a fascist though.

What's the definition of a coup d'état?

This is excellent Cora! Was your pitch inspired by the Lindsay Ellis video by any chance?

No, I'd never heard of her until recently and only watched that after creating the pitch(Banjo can vouch for me here)! I actually take a vastly different stance on the subject than she does and am focusing on stuff from specific music genres that I think she glossed over a wee bit. I've no idea how I would go about doing it but there's a guy called Scott Goodstein who worked on the Punk Voter initiative and ended up doing some digital campaign work for Obama in 2008 who I'd love to have a few words with on the subject.

I'm with Taf, think you should find your own ideas to write about.

Definitely on the path to an attempted coup and civil war right now.

Well at least you're off to a good start!

I doubt a civil war would last long. A bunch of undisciplined, disorganized, poorly-equipped manchildren against the most highly trained and equipped army on the planet?

Not a great matchup unless it becomes a guerilla war, which the US military doesn't have a great track record fighting.

Clearly there are political calculations being made by these people that we aren't privy to. Maybe they're stalling for time to try to force a Supreme Court decision.

The American military has traditionally never struggled against less well equipped and less trained opposition.

I assume a large proportion of the US military are MAGA chuds, so I don't think it's necessarily obvious what would happen there if Trump gets serious about doing a coup.

I think the military vote was pretty evenly split-Trump has pissed off the military on numerous occasions.

An even split is much better than I'd feared to be honest! Sadly still implies there are quite a lot of soldiers who might be hardcore MAGA though.

In places like Pittsburgh, I'm given to understand that the military vote was decidedly pro-Biden, and I'm also given to understand from Reddit and Imgur comments made by those serving that the officer corps, being more educated and whatnot, has been increasingly angry with the administration for some time.

I know that the military generally skews conservative, and I know that a certain percentage of it will inevitably be MAGA chuddites, but I think here the split would probably be closer to 70/30.

There's just no way the senior leadership is going to countenance backing a coup.

A lot of the rank and file might back Trump. It seems unlikely although in guessing that a second US civil war is one was 2021 could be worse than 2020 so it'll probably happen.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.
