Biden is no Roosevelt and if Roosevelt couldn't pack the court, Biden certainly can't.

I don't know an awful lot about this woman, so apologies if it turns out she's a monster, but I love this clip, and pretty much sums it up for me.

Dems really need to get on top of this and Biden's hand should be forced here to pack the supreme court. It's absolutely outrageous that the US could be plunged back 50 years in terms of civil rights. Those stats that Moggy shared, I had no idea that abortion rates in the US were comparable to here, or that they have generally halved since the 1980s. That's an incredible stat that they need to be pushing left right and centre. The current federal position has undeniably saved lives. If they roll this back, it won't save life at all.

Please explain to me how Biden can pack the supreme court.

Murder sitting conservative judges.

Honestly that is the only way I can think of it happening.

It's probably going to come to horrendous violence either way at this point. You just know the Christo-Fascists are chomping at the bit to inflict horrific suffering on their out group(s) of choice. Better to deny them the chance by offing their judicial and political legitimizers, than watch the next Holocaust unfold.

I've seen her in a few podcasts, she's pretty good. She tends to do circuits amongst the left wing circles though unfortunately.

I am not advocating murdering judges, I am just wondering if you feel that way about the various people that tried to kill Hitler?

Seems like you are advocating that. What did I misread?

As for Hitler (of course), there's a pretty big difference between a fascist ruler and constitutional judges belonging to one party in a democracy. You know that.

Alvin's edgelord post described 'judicial and political legitimizers', which includes political opposition of many stripes, including judges. Baffling stuff.

I've no idea. It was kind of his suggestion as he talked about the option (in vague political terms) during the election cycle. I presume there is some mechanism for him to do it. Wasn't the idea that he could add judges to the supreme court?

I'm not suggesting this is Biden's fault at all Reps have been scheming for decades to do this. The problem has landed during his term though so he needs to do something to protect people's basic rights. He needs to do literally everything within his power now.

Edit: I've read up on it, it seems congress would need to approve an expansion of the court which would be impossible as they'd need to somehow get rid of the filibuster first and I think Manchin and Sinema wouldn't change their minds even despite the damage the republican SCOTUS can now do.

A fascist state is incoming, through political and judicial measures, and it's going to commit atrocities against millions of people, rolling back a century or more of civil rights progress.

Is it better for the people to allow that to happen and keep their hands clean and retain the moral high ground (though, are their hands really clean if they could stop it and choose not to?), or for the people to kill the politicians and judges who would install such a regime and prevent long term mass suffering?

Not that this excuses anything, but they were appointed by a sitting president. It has nothing to do with democracy, those judges were not democratically elected.
