Cutting in with some slightly happier news; seems Biden has signed into effect the biggest gun control bill in 30 years.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-61938109
The bill increases funding for mental health, restricts purchasing of guns, closes some of the loopholes and includes more thorough background checks. Won't solve all the problems but not thinking in absolutes it may prevent a child shooting their school or offer help to someone with issues so its definitely a positive step in the right direction.

Related, there was a homophobic shooting in Oslo which I was in the area of when it kicked off (we was in the actual spot 20 minutes before which is a scary thought)
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-61933817
Seems it wasn't big news in UK news, which sadly could be a worrying sign this kind of thing has lost the shock and 'novelty' value it might of a decade or so ago (BBC news gave twice as much time explaining the pelvic exercises which helped some Glastonbury fans avoid needing the toilet to keep a spot at the Paul McCartney gig). One moment it was this banging summer night everyone was enjoying Pride the next there was police and reporters everywhere. Bloody horrible :(

Surprise hearing tomorrow -

aides refused to divulge what additional evidence they planned to present on Tuesday or who would be testifying, saying that the panel was concerned for the security of its witnesses.

The US right wing is up in arms as apparently the Biden administration is considering setting up abortion clinics in hostile states on federal land.

I'm not sure how or if that would work, but if he can do that then it would be one of the greatest achievements of his presidency and one of the greatest achievements in upholding human rights.

The secret witness was Cassidy Hutchinson who is the former aide to Mark Meadows.

Lots of other vids in that thread inc Giuliani and Meadows wanted pardons related to January 6, Trump re Hang Mike Pence "He thinks Mike deserves it. He doesn't think they're doing anything wrong." and Trump wanted to remove the metal detectors so the crowd would be bigger (and armed).

Also you'll be shocked to learn there's witness tampering going on -

He’s not going to do it.

It’s a (radical admittedly) solution proposed by those on the left (AOC for example) but the Dem leadership would rather just use the issue as a vote courting tool

I'm worried this witness thing is gonna blow up in their faces. It's not strong enough from her, and it should have been vetted way more.

Well the revelations yesterday were pretty torrid. I'm not a huge fan of using misogynistic language, but Trump is such a little bitch it's beyond belief. To go to the lengths he did, just because he couldn't accept losing. I'd hope nobody like him could get elected again, but sadly we are probably looking at a second term for him or a Trump clone.

I'm confused by the Hutchinson testimony. She wasn't in the car when this happened. Can they get the driver or someone else from Secret Service to corroborate? It certainly sounds like something Trump would say, but isn't it hearsay? I suppose the onus is now on those who were in the car to refute her testimony under oath, but it's not a slam dunk until that smoke clears imo.

Yeah it's just hearsay at this point, and reports are that the Secret Service have denied that this happened and the agents in his detail would be willing to confirm that under oath. Could be that they want to protect the integrity of the office of the president or something, I dunno.

Yeah, I think something she heard from someone else would be hearsay but it's not just about presenting legally tight evidence that would be used in a court case though, it's about getting information out there and convincing the public as well.

Unless they have testimony from the people who were there, this wheel thing is just pointless.

It's worth pointing out that a source close to the secret service said this isn't true and the guys in the car will testify to that effect. That's just a source, the secret service haven't said this.

If they don't speak under oath, it's meaningless hearsay. Hutchinson was under oath.
