As far as I know the president can do it unilaterally without any approval whatsoever.

Pretty much.

It's possible military leaders would have ignored him or that Congress would have attempted to stop him. But it's quite likely Trump could have launched them whenever he wanted.

Nancy Pelosi asked the Joint Chiefs about Trump's ability to launch nukes after the insurrection attempt and they told her there were enough safeguards in place that it wouldn't happen.

There's a episode of Opening Arguments where they talk about that and they point out that the safe guards are a General asking Trump if he really wants to nuke where ever and if he insists there's not a lot they can do without breaking US law.

I wonder if Ivanka has had to talk him out of launching nukes at any point in the past 4 years.

I'd love it if Biden actually said 'for anyone who didn't vote for me, get absolutely strawberry floated'

I certainly can't see Melania talking him out of it, I'd imagine nuclear holocaust would be a sweet release from that marriage.

Still seems weird that Obama is still the best person lead America in my opinion, but y'know term limits and that.

I thought Biden and the inauguration was nicely timed to heal after that shitshow the other week. Biden spoken with unity and confidence, so a good start especially with his executive orders he has planned.

Dems now need to shift into gear and move fast to push through as much as they can. Reps are going to be divided for a few months and fighting internal battles. But one thing the Dems can't do is go soft on the impeachment. That has to be seen through in my opinion and Trump needs to be banned from office.

Otherwise it sends a bad signal to the next arsehole that comes along and knows they can get away with that gooseberry fool.

She is in a paid position. She renegotiated the prenup before moving into the white house

Last day today, not sure where she is having her leaving drinks.
