Not that I'm defending her actions at all, but she barely had a chance in life. Abused in every way possible from when she was a toddler onwards...

People are far more complex than their actions may seem.

Yes.

Also the death penalty is repugnant no matter the crime.

A civilised society doesn't use the death penalty.

Guillotines are objectively cool though.

The death penalty is archaic and Lisa Montgomery is the textbook example of someone who should have been kept in a mental hospital rather than murdered by the state.

They should just be made to suffer terribly for the rest of their lives instead, like have to watch a michael McIntyre gig on repeat forever and have daily visits from the cast of Mrs Brown's boys who stay in character the whole time.

What’s the morality of the death penalty when the victim actively begs for the sweet release of death?

Please, PLEASE, I can't take any more observational comedy!

The prison warden hurriedly paces back and forth, takes a sip of water from a Perrier bottle on a small table, gestures wild - "hey have you ever noticed how the wrist straps on the electric chair don't match the headband? It's like, hello, *laughs at own joke* I'd like to at least go out with SOME dignity *corpses at own joke*. And whats with those food portions for the last meal, are they TRYING to make a mess?!

Just saw that Parler map of Europe. It is a source of genuine pride to me to see how much that drops off when you hit the border with Scotland.

Is it conceivable in any way that the end of Trump could splinter the Republican party? Could they see the rise of a UKIP/Brexit Party equivalent as we did over here or is the two party state too ingrained in their politics?

It's possible but seems unlikely.

And UKIP/Brexit Party didn't work out too well for us. :dread:

It's true. In the short term it'd be great: a splintered right wing. In the long run, the additional platforming given to the more extreme elements of the right wing would probably draw greater support for it overall, as we saw here.

Every political discussion I have at the moment just ends up realising that a mandate-winning percentage of people are horrible selfish twats and there's nothing we can do about it.

If the right split in two but the left stayed together, then it'd be great (US or UK!).

Yeah former Fox News presenter Kimberly Guilfoyle. She quit Fox after she was accused of sexual harassment.

The assistant alleged that Guilfoyle frequently displayed herself naked, showed photographs of the genitalia of men she had sex with, and required her to sleep over at Guilfoyle's apartment.[27] The New Yorker independently verified several of the assistant's allegations

If you saw the film Bombshell, she was the one trying to get Fox staffers to wear T-Shirts supporting Roger Ailes.
