If they did manage to get that 56 year thing going I'd be right back to streaming public domain movies. Hundreds of legitimately great films would suddenly become available instead of the rather thin pool of B-movies I had to make do with. Though some of them were surprisingly good. The Wasp Woman was a highlight as was the original Little Shop of Horrors.

The Veterans Affairs budget is like $200bn, $300bn next year.

I had to deal with the VA for something to do with work and it was one of the most excruciating processes I've ever been involved in. They have a god-awful system they use for all communication, basically like a regular helpdesk-style portal, but somehow much worse than any I've ever used before. And the people I dealt with were all thoroughly miserable. On the plus side, there was an automated message that repeatedly thanked me for serving my country .

Yeah, the VA is widely derided, and held up by conservative Americans as a home grown example of the "horrors" of universal healthcare.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A gunman sporting a rifle and body armor opened fire in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing at least 10 people before being taken into custody Saturday afternoon, law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.

Details on the number of additional people shot at the Tops Friendly Market and their conditions weren't immediately available. The two officials were not permitted to speak publicly on the matter and did so on the condition of anonymity.

Investigators believe the man may have been livestreaming the shooting and were looking into whether he had posted a manifesto online, the official said. The official cautioned the investigation was in its preliminary stages and that authorities hadn't yet discerned a clear motive, but were investigating whether the shooting was racially motivated.

The supermarket is in a predominately Black neighborhood, about 3 miles (5 kilometers) north of downtown Buffalo. The surrounding area is primarily residential, with a Family Dollar store and fire station near the store.

Yep, I don't think even a shooting involving a few hundred dead would make the Right even start to consider gun restrictions.
They honestly don't care how many die they just won't even begin to contemplate them.

The Great Replacement conspiracy theory is now openly rooted within mainstream right wing politics with only the most superficial amount of pushback from "moderate" conservatives. Increased white nationalist terrorism is a direct result of that and it'll only get worse if the radicalisation of young white men continues to be treated as weird individual anomalies. Problem stretches far beyond American borders too.

The "great replacement" is worldwide as Cuttooth said, there's a lot of people here in the UK that believe it.

And Musk will allow all of the racists back on Twitter to further spread it.

The Republican Party are a domestic terrorism organisation and have been for awhile.

And yet some democrats still try to meet them in the middle. Baffling.

One of my favourite quotes is that 'Conspiracy theories are how dumb people get to feel smart'. Demographic change in America has so many vast reasons behind it, but what if actually, there was only one reason and unlike the sheeple, you had fully understood it. It's not a confluence of multiculturalism, the natural ease and lack of expense associated with international travel over decades, birth rates, climate change, etc - it was designed by the 'Elites', just like Covid! Now you go take a weapon and defend your community from the elites and be a hero.

As with ISIS, it's a very tempting strategy for young male losers in society to go from stacking shelves to becoming admired by lunatics online for having 'taken action'. What makes this theory so terrifying is that by design, you're not meant to stand on the sidelines. You have to do something.

You don’t have to be considered a fringe conspiracy theorist to believe that white people are inherently superior to non-white people. Lots of people from various backgrounds hold this as an inalienable truth, including professionals like judges, lawyers, doctors, and professors who most people are likely to hold up as successful and intelligent members of society. Young men with nothing much to show for their lives or their futures may well seek solace in a racist conspiracy theory but I feel the wider problem are those kinds of Republican voters who rage at things they like to think are called Critical Race Theory.
