Looking at how the US operates these days I don't think they have much time for "kind" anymore!

strawberry floating hell, GRcade declaring the election is over, don't tell Trump!

Anyway, I was drafting a reply to Karl on an interesting subject in the election thread so here it is!

Karl_ wrote:
captain red dog wrote:I always felt McCain was a decent man, even if I completely disagreed with him on policy.

Moggy's video goes into the specifics of why McCain was a turd, but just in general - don't you think that if someone's politics leads them to become a politician for the Republican Party, that's actually a reflection of their character? Not having a go but how can you separate the two?

I see loads of people always trying to salvage G.W. Bush's reputation like this too. Maybe this is a militant, radical, communist view but I don't really care if he's into painting or nice to his dog, the dude is a monster.

I don't think GWB was a reasonable guy by any stretch. What he did with Blair was absolutely criminal in my opinion.

However, I try not to judge people by their party but by policy (aside from the fringe extremes, BNP, UKIP etc). In terms of republicans, there are many that I see as just plain wrong on policy rather than bad people. There are also those, take the Trump team for example, that I see as just disgusting people.

Dems are similar but to be honest I can't really name any bad actors off the top of my head as they align nearer to me on core issues. But from the perspective of a left wing Labour supporter, Dems are still significantly to the right of me, probably more right than UK Conservatives in many respects. So in that respect I can't jump for joy over Biden winning the presidency, although I am happy that someone a bit more left wing has won.

Having said that, I can't really say I have any friends who confess support for the Tories, and I simply can't imagine a time when I would be tempted to vote Tory, so maybe closer to home I feel the same as you. Although I have to confess I rarely discuss politics with my friends. It's some weird old fashioned thing I have where I don't discuss religion or politics with friends!

I can't remember exactly but I'm sure there were some really shitty things about Eisenhower. To be fair though all Presidents are shitty, Ike was probably one of the better post war Republican ones.

Although he did make Nixon Vice President.... :dread:

There hasn't ever been a "good" President. Just greater and lesser evils.

This is getting a little concerning now. Why would Trump replace Esper? Petty revenge for past disagreements doesn't seem particularly high up Trump's to-do list, so why? Expect the FBI and CIA heads are next. A lackey in charge of the Armed Forces, and your domestic and foreign intelligence services. The legal battles are a distraction, they obviously know they will all come to nothing. They might claw in some money from gullible idiots in the next two months but not nearly enough to cover the excessive debts built up by the campaign.

Biden is busy setting up a COVID task force while there is a literal coup occurring.

Trump wants a Yes Man who will allow him to deploy soldiers on the streets of America, and/or launch a war against a foreign power (likely Iran) to absolutely strawberry float with Biden's presidency.

The sooner AOC gives Pelosi the boot, the better.

The sooner people realise AOC’s views represent about 15% of Democrats the better. Had we listened to AOC and somehow got Bernie they’d have lost the Presidential Election.
