Worked for me when I was testing out various embedding https://grcade.minty14.net/t/testing-me ... /4?u=mafro

Or do you mean tweets in existing posts?

Ah, saw some test posts and it hasn't worked.

Interestingly, I can't see that post you linked to.

Try it now, I've moved it to a public category.

Make sure you don't have Firefox blocking tracking, because of that I'm not sure if they work yet. I'll try in Chromium (my stripped down browser).

Useful note for people trying to reset their password to log in - discourse doesn't support spaces in usernames it seems, so it has username and visible name as separate things. The visible/public one will be correct and you need to put in an underscore in place of spaces. So I become Green_Gecko rather than Green Gecko for example.

Or just log-in with your e-mail, which I think is better anyway as it's normally the same on every website you commonly use :)

I like how I've already met one community goal/badge - contributing within the last year ("Anniversary") with a nice little note saying thank you. I think we need this kind of gamification a bit without it making people laud their status... a difficult balance. It's fun and rewarding and there are so many people here contributing on a daily basis I think it's important to recognise that in some way without having to run a rewards ceremony that requires voting and so can become a circle jerk :)

You can also make custom badges and so on.

It looks alright. Nice readability, easy access to everything, and although I haven't logged in, I would suspect profiles are quick and easy to manage - especially with them looking nice and neat. I'm not sure I'm ready to see page numbers for threads vanish entirely, but that's just me. That timeline on the right of a thread should be suitable enough when wanting to look back in time.

I suspect that with the new software comes an easier way to implement new themes, so maybe some could be created for special occasions. But do not bring that Christmas Thread theme over. Please do. For the whole site.

More feedback now I've logged in:

+ MFA is double plus nice!
+ There is a setting to "Open all external links in a new tab"! Hurray, I don't have to argue why that shouldn't be the default any more ;)
+ Highlighting to selectively quote is neat and easy
+ Markdown and live-preview is nice
+ Polls are way more versatile

- I still REALLY miss signatures

Witty biological-political hybrid jokes are the reason this place fails to cater to a wide audience

Couple of thoughts so far.

It's very different from the way things are now and I'm not 100% how I feel about it.

I do think there is a lot of wasted space on my screen (Literally about 50% or more is blank) either side of posts. I'd like it to take advantage of the space better as I primarily read the site on my PC, not my phone (Though that does get used as well).

I want our Smilies back. We only recently got Capn Scotty and it's far too soon to abandon that. :capnscotty:

Logos - Easily one of our defining features is our custom logos, so I would like to see that be more prominent on the page.

It's certainly slick and it's going to take time to get used to, but I think with some tweaks it'll be a good base to move on with.

I added capn scotty, we can certainly add any custom emojis that we want to keep.

Being able to hide stickies and announcements would be great.

It's blocked at my work.

Ergo I'm now against all of this.

I'd be interested to know why it's being blocked. I doubt it's my domain as it's not being used for anything else that's publicly accessible. Did you see what the reason was? You usually get a categorisation or reason on the splash page that says it's blocked.

We can probably tweak whatever keywords it's putting on the page to get it unblocked.

Seems to have it under "URL Categories: Web Mail", which is certainly odd.

Is image hosting something we want to do? I don't know how quickly we'll eat up disk space with that available to everyone, rather than relying on imgur or whatever

Yeah, not sure I've ever even had mail services on that domain. Which software is picking it up?

For what it's worth, the filter at my work already picks grcade.co.uk up as games related and blocks it, so I guess it's always going to be pot luck.

Self hosting is much more user friendly and better for privacy.

If space does become an issue, media storage can be backed off to S3 natively with Discourse.

Definitely agree on UX and privacy, just wondering from a costs perspective

I am fairly strongly against image hosting for legal reasons (who handles DMCA takedowns? who will take responsibility for checking we aren't hosting anything illegal?) but it would be Gecko's problem so it's his call.
