Defiance is a surprising renewal, I was sure it'd get cancelled as the few episodes of S2 I've watched aren't exactly brilliant.

I really find the alien cultural stuff a bit boring, how many times must we watch albino aliens having a comunal bath in a plain white room?

How to get away with murder was alright for a glossy procedural but the protagonist has a really strawberry floating annoying thing where every time he's being spoken to he'll start looking away and then swivel his head to the speaker and look surprised.
Every single time

Hopefully it goes absolutely crazy like Scandal and not utterly gooseberry fool like Grey's Anatomy (the two previous shows made by the team behind it). The most likely development though is the show taking the course of a much lighter, both in tone and substance, take on Damages

Survivor
I enjoyed it but didnā€™t blow my socks off like the past 4 season premieres. I think following Cagayan is going to be tough so Iā€™m going to cut it a little slack for the time being.

I really liked the opening half an hour ā€“ the setting is part beach, part marshland, part wasteland. The tribes seem a little mismatched to me. Even at such an early stage I have a hard time seeing anyone from the Orange tribe as a winner. They do seem to have the advantage in the challenges mainly thanks to Johnā€™s strength, shame their puzzle abilities let them down. I donā€™t feel we were shown enough of the plotting on Orange tribe after the immunity challenge. We basically saw the girls sticking with the girls and vice versa with the boys with Josh stuck in the middle. I had to look at the votes online to figure out what happened ā€“ Baylor voted with the men whereas Josh voted for Baylor, although in the episode we saw Baylor make it very clear to Josh that she wants to stick by his side.

Iā€™m not totally sold on the cast right now, compared to Cagayan this cast donā€™t seem as exciting or dynamic but maybe they are and we just werenā€™t shown it. Iā€™m getting a very ā€˜One Worldā€™ impression but thereā€™s lots of time for it to get better ā€“ Jeff has been hyping this season up almost as much as he did before the start of Cagayan.

I got a good vibe from Jeremy and Val ā€“ though Jeremyā€™s recruitment capabilities need some refining as it was painful to watch! I think both are potential winners and are the only pair which both members have a chance to win. My guess of who will win based on the premiere (something I have always done) is that it will either be Jon (not Rocker) or Josh.

Looking forward to your impressions MM.

Yep, I was a bit meh on it as well. It was lacking the "someone goes crazy early on" or the boobs of Morgan of recent seasons. Plus it had the usual problem of trying to fit everything into an hour so you couldn't delve deep into the cast. I was a bit confused by Exile Island (which seems to have been last on before I started watching) as thought it was Redemption Island then they suddenly re-joined their tribes again.

Your choices seem pretty safe bets for the win.

I'd have to go with a mild Nay. It's been ok and got better in later episodes but with so many shows returning/debuting at the current time I'd say don't bother.

Ah, cool. Iā€™ve never been on NG but Iā€™ll bookmark that for reading.

Your mention of Exile Island (last on in S18 IIRC) has reminded me of a point I forgot to make earlier.

I really think Val missed a trick. The pots that she and Keith(?) had to choose were at random? One of them has an idol clue, one of them doesnā€™t and itā€™s totally down to the players as to which one they choose. The idol clue will be the same for whomever picks the correct pot. What Val should have realised is that this means the idols are in the same place at each camp. Val could have forged an alliance with Keith here and gave him the location to the immunity idol at the Blue tribeā€™s camp. She already knows that Keith is a firefighter, like Jeremy and knows that Jeremy will be grateful for Keith taking care of her while on Exile.

Why not take the chance on giving Keith that information and forming a cross-tribe alliance that controls both immunity idols? In the meantime all Val would need to worry about is keeping Wes in the loop and provided they can keep each other out of the firing line, given that they are on opposing alliances within their tribe, you got a four person alliance (at least) at the merge and 2 immunity idols.

God I need to get on the UK version if it ever comes back.

Just started watching the first episode of Black-ish and Laurence Fishburne is playing Anthony Anderson's father. How does that work? There's a nine year age gap between them.

Finished watching the first season of Bojack Horseman, it's brilliant.

Starts off as a fairly standard adult comedy animation but it really grows on you, the last few episodes are surprisingly deep for a show about anthropomorphic animals (the penultimate episode is almost at Jurassic Bark levels of depressing).

Almost tops Archer as my favourite Aldult animated comedies.

Gracepoint S01E01, Thursdays in the US.

When a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach, a major police investigation gets underway in the small northern California seaside town where the tragedy occurred. Soon deemed a homicide, the case turns neighbor against neighbor and sparks a media frenzy, which throws the boy's family into further turmoil and upends the lives of the town's residents.

Welcome to GRACEPOINT, a new 10-episode mystery event series based on ā€œBroadchurch,ā€ the U.K.'s critically acclaimed hit crime drama. GRACEPOINT is an expansion of the original series, introducing new characters, identifying new suspects and threading new storylines through the gripping narrative that will end when secrets are revealed and the killer is caught.

In the series, "Instafamous" Eliza Dooley (Gillan) has 263,000 followers who hang on to her every post, tweet and selfie. But one lonely day, she has a revelation: being friended is not the same as having actual friends. She asks marketing guru Henry (Cho) to 'rebrand' her self-obsessed reputation and teach her how to connect with people in the real world.

Loosely based on "My Fair Lady," "Selfie" explores the modern struggles of Eliza and Henry, as he tries to teach her how to live life offline--whether she ā€˜likes' it or not.

"A to Z" tells the story of Andrew (Ben Feldman, "Mad Men," "The Mindy Project") and Zelda (Cristin Milioti, "The Wolf of Wall Street," "How I Met Your Mother") - a pair that almost wasn't - and all that happened from the day they met.

STALKER stars Maggie Q and Golden Globe Award winner Dylan McDermott in a psychological thriller about detectives who investigate stalking incidents ā€“ including voyeurism, cyber harassment and romantic fixation ā€“ for the Threat Assessment Unit of the LAPD. Det. Jack Larsen is a recent transfer to the Unit from New York Cityā€™s homicide division, whose confidence, strong personality and questionable behavior has landed him in trouble before ā€“ but whose past behavior may also prove valuable in his new job. His boss, Lt. Beth Davis, is strong, focused and an expert in the field, driven by her traumatic personal experience as a victim. With the rest of their team, young but eager Det. Ben Caldwell and deceptively smart Det. Janice Lawrence, Larsen and Davis assess the threat level of cases and respond before the stalking and intimidation spirals out of control, all while trying to keep their personal obsessions at bay.

Bad Judge S01E01, Thursdays in the US.

No excuses, no apologies, no compromises. Wild child Rebecca Wright (Kate Walsh, "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice") knows how to have a good time, but she also happens to be one of LA's toughest and most respected criminal court judges. She has a reputation for unorthodox behavior in the courtroom, including creative rulings and saying exactly what's on her mind. Her private life, on the other hand, is anything but innocent. While there's no shortage of male admirers who would love to spend time with her, she's not ready to settle down.

Yep, I'd recommend The Code is you're after something new to watch this week. New 6 part Aussie series (2 have been shown so far) featuring Lucy Lawless, Aiden Young, Ashley Zukerman.

Image

Stretching from the spectacular red desert of Australia's outback to the cool corridors of power in Canberra, THE CODE tells the story of two very different brothers who unearth information that those at the highest levels of political power will kill to keep secret.
