Note that they don't included CDKeys as I think they consider them grey market as a key reseller, rather than a direct vendor. In all likelihood, anywhere doing keys cheaper than CDKeys that isn't an actual vendor is likely to be selling you keys that are the product of fraud, and you risk having keys revoked, as well as the developer losing out on a chargeback when the original key purchase is reported as fraudulent.

CDKeys doesn't seem to be that dodgy as key resellers go, they seem to exploit regional/currency price variations to offer a discount, but they're still not considered an official vendor.

Should I be avoiding CDkeys then? They're the only key site I've ever used apart from Humble Bundle. I do mainly just buy straight from Steam though.

I wouldn't worry about using them, I use them every now and again, and plenty of others do as well without issue. They're definitely not a G2A type reseller, but it's because they're not an approved vendor that you won't find them on sites like isthereanydeal.

I've used CD Keys for several years without issue but it's the only site that I'd use that isn't on Is There Any Deal. Places like G2A feel like trouble waiting to happen :dread:

I have largely used them without issue, but once I bought a Game Pass 3 month sub from them and found out afterwards it was non-stackable. I emailed them for a refund and they never replied and then changed the description on their site to read "non stackable".

Started prey on the deck. WTF is up with the default deck controls? R5 to pick up, R3 to jump. A opens up a search menu? Jesus this is madness.

My deck is no longer displaying correctly on my monitor via the dock. It was working just fine on Friday.

When I connect by either HDMI or Display Port, the screen on the Deck freezes up, and the monitor doesn't register a signal. The deck itself isn't frozen, I can hear system sounds as I try to navigate menus, etc, and unplugging the video cable returns it to normal.

In desktop mode, I can see that it registers the monitor in display settings before it freezes the screen, but nothing I changed in there seems to fix the issue. I tried switching to standard system updates rather than beta/experimental, and have the same issue. My dock firmware seems to be up to date too.

Had a quick look on online and have seen people talking about a GPU driver reset you can do with button combos at start up, but that's not sorted it either.

Anyone else had this happen?

Over the weekend I noticed that my TV would occasionally lose the picture momentarily then immediately come back while it was docked. Couldn't really work out why, I thought it might be down to a sleep setting but it wasn't happening the 15 or 20 minutes that the Deck is meant to dim or sleep. I don't think it's because I was streaming remotely using Moonlight, which is the main reason I play docked.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a general bug with the dock though.

I have had this happen once when using it on my TV. A full power down / up of the SD resolved it. That being said, I think it coincided with when I realised that the HDMI lead in question was on the way out (needed a wiggle to display the image sometimes). Might be worth checking that as it's relatively easy to do?

Also it's possibly not the ideal solution but have you tried using an HDMI - USB C adapter directly? If that would work then it should rule out something being wrong with the Steam Deck itself I guess.

There’s a “safe” mode on connecting external displays in the settings now. Might want to make sure that’s on. I think it cycles a few resolutions until your monitor shows up and you hit ok.

The dock has worked fine for ages though, I can't work out why this weekend seems to have seen it give up.

Have tried on another HDMI lead that is currently working to get my work laptop onto the same monitor, and that's got the same issue, so don't think it's the lead. Will try with another HDMI on the TV downstairs later on.

Didn't know about this, but it sounds like a good feature. Didn't solve this issue though.

Thanks all, gonna have to continue investigating once I can get to another screen. Obviously this happens just as I commit to downsizing my desk space and want to commit to using my deck as my main desktop replacement. :lol:

At least Valve seem to be OK at replacing broken parts. Just sucks you will have to wait a long time for it to get replaced if that is the root cause.

And this morning it just works. :lol:

I wonder if I caused a problem by trying to use Picture By Picture mode, displaying two inputs in a vertical resolution side by side, at start up, before my deck was in desktop mode. I doubt game mode supports much in the way of vertical aspect ratios.

Booted the Steam Deck while it was docked and all I got was a black screen with the boot up sounds, then the fans screaming at 100% before I switched it off. Booted up fine after that though.

I’m going to be annoyed if the Steam Dock is acting weird for no reason. I’m going to be pissed off if I end up having to send the new Deck back to Valve. :fp:

Has anyone tried Outer Worlds on Steam Deck? Reading mixed things on if it runs great or poor and crashes lots.

Also, is it worth playing?

What’s with all the updates that happen when I turn on the Steam Deck every time? Every day I switch it on and the same games that I have installed get updates of anywhere between 70-300mb? Think it says something about shader pre-caching updates?

Yeah just compatibility updates really, they will be released via Valve not the actual game devs.

You can change it so games only update when you launch them if it bugs you.
