See above mate. I'm happy to accept that if my SSD in the Deck breaks I am out of luck but at least that would be automated. If I have to do the process (and it required switching to desktop mode to do so) I am absolutely going to forget to do so at some point or forget what card I have backed up to when I need it in 3 years.

What's the game Kaz? I might own it myself and could check for you.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Just been looking at this article

https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/how-to-uninstall-steam-games/#:~:text=Keep%20in%20mind%20that%20after,need%20to%20install%20it%20again.

Keep in mind that after you officially delete the folder, that corresponding game will be gone. Your saved items and progress will all be lost, so make sure you actually want to delete the game. If you decide that you’d like to play the game again after removing it, you’ll need to install it again

also this on the Steam Community

I’m shocked that uninstalling a game will completely wipe out saves considering juggling storage is a must on a handheld. I at least think a warning should be put up that a non-cloud sync enabled game will lose its save in both these situations.

So yeah, if the cloud save does not work then you may not have a save kept on the Deck itself. Annoying really, didn't realise that myself.

Thanks for putting in the effort. Seems like a strange oversight, but in the world of cloud saves I guess I'm a dinosaur for having these concerns.

Dark Nights with Poe and Munro (don't laugh, I like FMV games). There was another one I recently saw with similar concerns against it in the Proton DB.

Just checked out the review on Proton, looks like that was 2 years ago so it might be worth trying it on a newer version of Proton as it may well not be an issue any more? Maybe start a game, save it, uninstall then reinstall and see if it lets you continue.

I had exactly the same thought process, but thanks for confirming my logic checks out.

Has anyone had issues running Ubisoft games (Bought on Steam) on Steam Deck?

Wanting to pick up some of the games in the current sale (Prince of Persia games, some Splinter Cell, Watch Dogs and Ass Creed) but looking at some reviews and ProtonDB it seems they don’t all run smoothly, possibly due to the Ubi connect launcher?

Not tried many Ubi games but it's possible because I've had lots of issues on Burnout Paradise Remastered with the EA launcher causing the game to crash. The most frustrating part was how random it would be it would work like 50% of the time, when the game boots it plays fine and if it gets stuck at the launcher it just dies back to the steam client.

So I imagine Ubi games might be similar? I'd be wary unless they are cheap and it doesn't bother you.

Videos on YouTube seem to show them running fine but comments do mention some issues getting them up and running at first. I might try a couple and if they are bad I’ll request a refund, wonder if this is something that might get addressed in Proton fixes tho?

The problem with anything that uses a launcher, is that the publishers tend to update the launcher and break Steam Deck compatibility. EA are especially bad for it. Where games can go from running flawlessly to "lol no" after one tiny patch.

So definitely look into ways of bypassing this shite if you can.

It irritates me because it's wildly unnecessary and is obviously just there so they can capture metrics and data in the guise of "look it's our fun EA launcher with our own achievements which are already on steam".

I get if you buy games direct from EA/Ubi you would need to use their launcher via WINE/Proton but they should disable it from Steam!

Rockstar do this too but I've not had theirs crash but still they don't need their own launcher!

Yeah it’s really annoying, hopefully it won’t reach a point where the games are left completely unplayable because of it.

So I bought and tried Assassin’s Creed Origins on Steam last night and it worked perfectly fine from what I could see. Took a little while to get going initially as it had to update the Ubi Connect launcher and I had to find my login details for it but once I was in the game played fine.

Looks fantastic on the OLED screen too, it was running in high settings as well.

Been playing around with remote accessing my PC via desktop mode, and I've got Remmina running really well. So now I can keep my deck on my small office space upstairs with my work laptop, while my main desktop sits downstairs next to the router and out of the way. This way, I can still run games in higher visual quality using remote play, and still have access via desktop mode for large file storage I'd rather not be clogging up my SD card with. Might finally look at getting the desktop set up as a proper media streaming centre and get some pirate series on the living room telly too. :shifty:

The in-home streaming options are fantastic. I use Sunshine/Moonlight on my setup and it's like playing it natively. Lets me really use the power of my Desktop to stream it to my bigger screen downstairs. Looks great.

I wasn't too impressed with the built-in Steam Streaming solution though. Surprisingly laggy and looked awful.

Yeah, I remember mucking about with different streaming options on a tablet before. I remember moonlight being a good one. Haven't really had much time to try out the game streaming yet, but I know there's already a built in solution for it, so I've been less keen to get a solution working. Remote desktop however was remarkably easy to set up, and with some fiddling with settings, runs perfectly for what I need.

Not used RD myself but heard it's good. But Sunshine has been flawless for me. Puts Valves own built-in solution to shame.

Is the SD simply not up to PS2 emulation using PCSX2? I tried a couple of games and they were slowing to a crawl. That's at 1 x resolution with no AA or anything.

I really wanted to play Outrun Coast 2 Coast but it was all over the shop.

Then I tried Roll Cage on PS1 (which I have really fond memories) and once you enter a race, NONE of the controls work. I even tried reassigning controller order etc in QAM.

I'm starting to think emulation is just a waste of time for anything beyond GBA.

That sounds a little disappointing. My Odin Lite (which is much less powerful than a SD) can do a half decent job on some Gamecube games (TTYD plays pretty much perfectly).

Some stuff is fine (I have played a few GC and they have been great), but it feels like a bit of a lottery on some of the "newer" consoles.
