First impressions are the UI isn’t as slick as I was expecting from the videos I watched. Keep finding the screen hanging when exiting a game or app. Not sure what’s going on.

The screen is a thing of beauty. Only played half life 2 so far might download elden ring and give that a blast.

Have you checked your fully updated? Posts I've read elsewhere seemed to indicate that it doesn't automatically update the firmware.

Yeah I updated everything. When I exit anything it just stays this screen saying exiting. Never stops. But the system isn’t hanging I can press the steam button and close it manually. Maybe that’s just how it is.

The desktop top mode definitely will benefit from mouse and keyboard (I feel dumb writing that).

Also I was hoping I could Chuck the sd card in the pc and copy my roms. Can’t do it though need to wireless transfer everything. Little niggles I’m sure I’ll get over or will be ironed out.

Don’t get me wrong the unit is top tier. It’s just a lot to adjust to I guess but I do love tinkering probably more than playing on it lol.

The best thing about Valve sending confirmation emails out twice a week now, is that I get twice the feeling of disappointment.

UK 512GB queue appears to have moved less than 30 seconds down the reserve time list, currently around 13 minutes through. At this rate, it'll be the end of June before I get my order that went in at 17 minutes past. :(

squeeky bum time there after upgrading the 64gb to 256gb NVME (£26.99! not bad!) black screen lasted a LONG TIME. I started panicking calling myself an idiot. LOL

How did you find the process? Any concerns with the self tapping screws and potentially affecting the drop resistance? I'm still thinking about opening mine to see if my left thumb stick click can be fixed without needing to replace anything. I figure even if I did RMA it they'll probably be sending back a refurbed model that'll have been opened anyway, so probably not much to lose unless I end up damaging it somehow.

This is a bit strange - my reserve time is 25 minutes past, and I'm still showing up as Q2 for the 512 GB version. Maybe Valve are really planning to ramp it up in May and June.

A week now since I placed the order and still no deck. At least with the preorder wait I wasn’t even looking at it

I guess the orders per minute won't be linear anyway, and given the way the website was inaccessible to so many at the time, there will probably be periods with a much lower quantity of orders, but going by data collected on reddit, the UK 512GB queue is the slowest moving of all.

I was thinking what to play on it first when I get it and I figured I might start by actually setting up a bunch of emulators. So I went looking for some guides and impressions on performance and… I guess I can throw my Switch in the bin? Good lord, the thing is a monster.

Only concern was doubting my ability to do it but it was really simple. I heard about the drop resistance thing I’ll take my chances. The screws are just regular screws. I think I read about screws that were strawberry floated if removed but these just seemed normal. I just didn’t over tighten. You have to break a security so I imagine my warranty is done now. Everything sorted now.

Just waiting for emudeck to finish scraping.

Excited to get stuck in.

Woo: it’s here

Boo: the right analog stick ain’t right. There’s a tactile and audible click when moving it around in a circle. Left one is perfectly smooth

New beta OS includes OS controlled fan curves, and adjustable screen refresh rates, where the framerate limiter will automatically adjust to match it 1:1, 1:2, or 1:4.

SteamOS 3.2 Beta Patch Notes: April 27th, 2022
We have made updates to SteamOS for Steam Deck in the beta channel, for those who would like to try it out and provide feedback.

You can opt into this by going to Settings > System on your Steam Deck, and selecting Beta from the OS Update Channel.

The SteamOS 3.2 Beta started on April 25th, and was last updated on April 27th. It includes the following changes from SteamOS 3.1:

Added an OS-controlled fan curve to improve the experience in low usage scenarios, and adjusting how the fan responds to different scenarios and temperatures.
Fixed an issue where OS fan control would not automatically resume after waking up the device from sleep.
Added experimental support for changing the in-game screen refresh rate. The refresh rate will automatically be adjusted to the desired option when going in and out of game.
There is a new slider in the Quick Access Menu > Performance tab that allows you to choose a screen refresh rate between 40-60Hz
The framerate limit slider values will update accordingly, and will include 1:1, 1:2, 1:4, or uncapped framerate options.

Fixed an issue with typing the € key using the Steam keyboard
Added experimental support for bringing up the Steam keyboard automatically in some cases in Desktop mode

This is rubbish mate, hope it's resolved soon.

I wonder what the current RMA rate on these is? There seem to be a lot of issues online, but I guess there's always a bias towards fault reporting vs people who have a Deck with no issues. Wonder if they're refurbing units, or sending out new ones as replacements?

I’ve opened the support request and they’ve been very quick to ask that I prove it, and quick to confirm they don’t offer advance RMA, but as soon as I said “ok, well, I’d like to proceed with the RMA anyway” it’s been radio silence.

Here it is in all its clicky glory
