Checked out the PlayStation Summer Sale this morning - all the PS5 games which are discounted are still over £50!

I saw that this morning too, £55 For a digital game "on sale" :dread:

Can you stream games on Steam? Just wondering if that's an option if someone wanted the cheaper model with small hard drive.

I thought I’d check my Steam account anyways......I own just 2 games! Company of Heroes 2 and FM2016!

Don’t think it’s worth me ordering one of these really!

If you've got an Xbox controller can't you just use that for any PC/Gamepass games that need them? I thought the Xbox drivers were baked into W10 now.

WRT mouse and keyboard controls, don't write them off if you've only used a trackpad and built-in keyboard. Even a relatively cheap mouse and external keyboard will be better than laptop inputs. Some games are better with a pad obviously, but for others there is no substitute for WSAD and a mouse.

Also download Epic and get the free games every week - your collection will swell very quickly!

This epic games store thing. Valve said it would be supported. It’s massive if it’s supported without windows. If you need to install windows for GPU, epic etc, it’s going to be a pain.

How much of a hog is windows, and will it run ok on the hardware?

Agreed with this, to answer - no one will know for now. Personally, i will love to play Diablo 2 resurrected on this - so i'm in the same boat.

I’ve got loads of games on Epic, including control and borderlands. I doubt those games will run well. But, I have loads of smaller games/older games I’d play. Defence grid, rollercoaster tycoon, civilisation 6, football manager and many more.

Ive been looking at ‘deaths door’, and reckon that would be a great game for the steam deck. We just have to look out and see what comes.

I hadn't thought about it but Diablo 2 would be perfect on this  .

I don't really see the point of mobile gaming these days. Any time I am out of the house I usually have something better to do with my time. Push comes to shove I just read my latest ebook off an app on my phone. Must be getting old.

On a purely technical level the pricing of the deck is pretty impressive though.

is there any chance the SteamDeck could run Half-Life Alyx (with one of the no VR mods)? I don't really have the interest in getting a new desktop pc and I use MacBook so I don't have any computing device to play it on so being to play the Half-Life Alyx would add some further interest in me buying a SteamDeck.

I think they've said that while technically it could be used to run VR (It's just a PC after all), you're not going to have a good time with it.

It just doesn't have the firepower to competently handle it.

So I wouldn't buy it with VR in mind.

EDIT: Just noticed you would be doing it with the no VR mods.

I can't see why you couldn't technically (I'm not sure how demanding it is without the VR), but I can't say I would recommend flat-screen Alyx. This game is made for VR and is built around it.
If you only want the story, you'd genuinely be better served just watching a Youtube playthrough.

Don't play that game without VR ffs, it's completely pointless.

I don't know anything about it - does it not just play like a normal Half-Life game if you don't play in VR?

No, it was built entirely around VR from the ground up. So you've got things like manually manipulating objects in the world and the gunplay not being a typical "Firing down the reticule in the middle of the screen", there is no reticule, the weapons fire wherever you happen to be pointing them which could be in literally any direction depending on your hand orientation (So you could fire blindly over the top of cover or from leaning around a corner).

I can understand the point of the mods to make it non-VR, but I suspect that playing the game that way would be a big let down to what some people might be expecting after listening to the hype of people who've played it in VR.

Thanks for the tips. I had thought of just watching a YouTube play through but then with some of non-vr mods looking fairly promising in at least making it playable I had been holding of so I could at least enjoy the story in an interactive way.

I might watch the progress of the non-vr mods over the rest of this year and then see about pre-ordering a Steam Deck in the new year.

I placed my order on day one so hopefully, I should get my 512gb at the beginning of the Q2 2022 estimated time it says on the order page.

This will be my way back into PC gaming after over 10 years of being console only :D .

That first video (The Linus Tech Tips one) has confirmed what I suspected. You can extend the desktop to have 2-screens.

Mostly this interests me because Cemu (The Wii U emulator) allows you to have two windows open, one for the TV screen and the other for the Wii U controller screen. So assuming it has the grunt to run Cemu well (And from what I've been reading, emulator devs are confident it will) this could be the perfect Wii U emulation device.

I got the same estimated date and I ordered on the same day. I'm ridiculously excited for this. Gonna be so cool to see what can be done with it.

This is a totally stupid and impractical idea but as this is pretty much just a pc could you plug in one of those external graphics things that you can get for laptops and stuff if you felt like giving it a boost in a few years?
Again this isn't a sensible option I'm just wondering if it could be done.
