The next major revision of it will be the one to get, as it's very much got the prototype appearance about it at the moment.

I'd be surprised if it does well enough to get a second revision. It looks cool and I'm getting one but, much like the Steam Controller, I'm not sure it will have mass appeal. (Hope I'm wrong as I personally like it!)

Hopefully it does well enough to get spec bumps every now and then at least.

This may be a stupid question but I have a new Chromebook and was wondering if it would be possible to somehow link my Steam Deck to it to use the larger screen?

From what we’ve seen it should be fine. There is a dock, but the device itself has usb-c, hdmi and display port out connections.

The dock might be more useful in future, but you should be able to connect the deck to any other screen.

If you have it in a dock connected, in principle there shouldn't be an issue (I am no expert on chromebooks) with it.

Basically depends on if the Chrome book has any visual inputs rather than just outputs. I'd imagine you most likely won't be able to, very few laptops have video In connections. I've only ever really seen it on higher end gaming laptops.

Hello, here's a quick update on anti-cheat.

Our team has been working with Epic on Easy Anti-Cheat + Proton support over the last few months, and we're happy to announce that adding Steam Deck support to your existing EAC games is now a simple process, and doesn't require updating game binaries, SDK versions, or integration of EOS. Alongside our BattlEye updates from last year, this means that the two largest anti-cheat services are now easily supported on Proton and Steam Deck.

If your title uses EAC or BattlEye, you can find instructions for enabling Proton support in the partner documentation here.

Related to this, we're going to start submitting Deck Verified test data for tested titles that use anti-cheat middleware on Monday, January 24th. As with all other Deck Verified reviews, when the test data is submitted you'll receive an email notification and access to detailed Deck Verified data on the landing page for your game. Once this happens, you'll have one week to choose to publish the test data as-is or submit a new build for review, after which the data will automatically publish.

For partners who are able to complete the EAC/BattlEye steps, that's great! Once your game is updated, please submit for a re-review and we'll update the compatibility data. Any tested games that don't enable EAC/BattlEye for Proton will temporarily have an Unsupported rating until they do.

That's it for today. We're very excited to be able to make this announcement as it means partners can continue to use their existing cheat prevention tools while adding support for more amazing games on Steam Deck. Please let us know in the forums if you have any questions.

Customers will have 3 days (72 hours) from receipt of their order email to make their purchase, before their reservation is released to the next person in the queue. The first units will be on their way to customers starting the 28th, and we plan to release new order email batches on a weekly cadence.

Oh boy, there will be some salty peeps when the email is in junk folder.

I'm hoping enough people cancel that I can get on that first wave. Doubt it though.

I wasn't able to get Steam to work properly and order mine until about 7.15pm on the day (hour and a quarter after ordering opened) so I'm guessing mine will arrive at some point in 2025

My estimate has been pushed back, I'm on team Q2 now. It must be a really limited run to begin with.

To be honest with all the delays my guess is if it says Q2 now, it'll be Q3 at the earliest. I don't really mind but I think they could have done a better job with the estimates - it seems like everyone has been saying forever that there were going to be ongoing computer manufacturing & supply chain issues this year.

You can check your estimate here. https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck

I am in the same boat, I am after Q2 so would need a lot of people to not buy the unit for me to move up. I am okay with that though, gives time to support for other stuff and QoL things to be added.

Oh and just in case anyone missed this.

As part of the ongoing work to support Steam Deck, we added a new Dynamic Cloud Sync feature to Steam Cloud. This feature allows players to seamlessly move between Deck and PC instances of the game without needing to worry about exiting the game on the Steam Deck.

We anticipate that users will frequently suspend their Steam Deck without exiting the game, as is common with other hand-held gaming devices. With Dynamic Cloud Sync, if they then choose to play on another device (whether a PC or another Steam Deck), their progress will be there waiting for them.

With Dynamic Cloud Sync, Steam will automatically upload all modified save game data to the cloud prior to the device entering sleep mode. Users can then resume their game on any PC, laptop or other device. Steam will also automatically download any save game changes when users return to their Steam Deck and wake up the device.

Taking advantage of this feature isn’t a requirement for players to enjoy your game on Steam Deck, but we recommend you use it to give players the best experience possible. Without Dynamic Cloud Sync enabled, Steam will still track when save game data is changed on the Steam Deck. However, any user who suspends their Deck while your game is running and then tries to resume that game on a different device, will be prompted to first return to their Deck to close the running process or continue without their most recent save game progress.

The feature is free to use, but it’s not automatic: developers must manually enable it on their games in Steamworks and take advantage of some new APIs
. Below, you can find the steps to enable it for your games, and more detail about the accompanying APIs.
