I'm still Q2 estimate for mine, but my bigger concern now is, if you only get a 3 day window to complete your purchase or lose your spot, I'm now in a situation where I'll probably be relying on my work bonus this year to pay for this, and if that comes through later in Q2 than the Valve email, I'm heading right to the back of the queue.

3 days is pretty tough considering that not everyone has the money just sat waiting.

I'm still "after Q2" on mine, which should give me enough time to get the money together, but the 3 day window does suck.

Hope you get your bonus in time Knoyleo.

I have the cash I just don't have the slot.

If you are in the first group then why have you not been saving / putting the cash aside? It's not like it was a secret that it was coming soon.

Q2 2022 still for me. So March, or April and we’ll need to order in Feb?

Thankfully no.

They will send an email to the top of the list first, which corresponds to the number of units they have and will do this on a weekly roll out. If you do not purchase in the 3 day period an email for that unit will go to the next person in line and you will lose your spot and either go to the back or have it outright cancelled.

Yeah mine is "after Q2 2022" as well, though I'm sure it used to be just Q2.

Everyone moved back a period when they announced delays last year, so I was originally Q1, but now Q2.

As much as I've been looking forward to this, it's still a bit of a frivolous novelty, so it's sat at the bottom of the list of upcoming expenditure by importance. I've also been considering whether the money I'm spending on this would be better put towards a PC upgrade instead.

I probably can move some money about to cover this, but honestly, when I saw Q2, I'd made an assumption that would probably give me until June anyway, as I was almost expecting this to get delayed again. Sods law says the email for this will come through the day after I've just gone and ordered the next bit of furniture for the house.

I'd be surprised if it does well enough to get a second revision. It looks cool and I'm getting one but, much like the Steam Controller, I'm not sure it will have mass appeal. (Hope I'm wrong as I personally like it!)

Hopefully it does well enough to get spec bumps every now and then at least.

I'm expecting Valve to abandon it completely but if they don't and reviews are good, I'll probably get gen 2.

Yeah, I've been trying to decide if I'm going through with my purchase too. I was excited when it was first announced as I saw it as a neat way to get back into some PC gaming. But I've since bought a new CPU and GPU anyway, and have been playing quite a bit more on PC now.

I've not yet sold my old hardware, the takings should cover a decent chunk of the cost of the Steam deck if I do. But I've also been tempted to build a small form factor PC with the parts and sticking that in the living room which would serve the main purpose of what I'd use the Steam Deck for anyway. It would be quite a bit more expensive but it would at least be upgradable in future, at the cost of portability.

I have a Q1 slot, so not long to decide. :slol:

Yeah, I’ve upgraded my PC and I don’t go out anymore. Why do I need this? Thinking about it .

Yeah, but that was very much the exception rather than the rule - these days it seems most stuff is either bought through some kind of scheme or otherwise impossible to get hold of!

Heh, yeah I know. It’s just funny that Sony were better organised for stock shortages back then than they are now.

Yeah it's crazy that they didn't just bring that sort of system back straight away.

I think they have been doing it in the US to be fair, it just seems to have taken then ages to bring it here!

This is most likely a stupid question but here goes.

Will it be possible to make the viewing area smaller on a 55" TV?
I'm pretty sure the dock will let me connect the TV but I have a feeling it's going to look a bit gooseberry fool on such a large screen so want to just condense the picture a bit and I don't want to have to buy a monitor.
Does that sound like a thing it should be able to do?

Your tv might have scaling options somewhere where you could reduce the screen size.

https://www.pcgamer.com/developers-prai ... -for-real/

The Steam Deck may finally be shipping out in a few weeks to those who preordered it, but game developers have had an early version for months. They've been teasing us by posting clips on social media showcasing Valve's handheld gaming PC running their games. We spoke to several of these developers and they all assert that, yes, the excitement is genuine, and the Steam Deck could be huge for PC gaming.

All of the developers we spoke with were shocked at how easy it is to work with the Steam Deck, despite the system running Linux and Proton, a Windows compatibility layer on top of it.

"I was surprised how well games work on it without any changes, and how good it feels to play on it," Jonathan Smårs, Iron Gate programmer and designer, told PC Gamer. "Valheim worked from day one on Steam Deck without any changes," he said.

"The graphic settings need to be set down a bit compared to my high end PC of course, but I'm still impressed with what such a small handheld can handle without any platform specific optimizations," Smårs said.

Absolutely insane if it really is that competent a machine, and coming out at the price it is, when you look at just how much even a bad standalone GPU is.
