Valve’s had a blow out of their latest tech; the Valve Steam Deck [a $400 portable Switch-like PC]

It’ll be interesting to see what the market makes of this as most Steam Hardware is over priced and seem to disappear not long after they’ve been announced and manufactured.

Valve do what Nintendont

Could this be the real Switch Pro?

It looks pretty ugly. Based on what happened with the Steam Machines, I'm not expecting this to be adopted by the masses.

I like the look of this. The appeal is all of those steam games and library we have, and how cheap it is to add to that.

Seems alot of money though.

I love the idea but that button placement looks awful, I would need to try one but I can’t imagine it being comfortable for long periods

Hey, if it worked for the Wii U, it'll work for...

Oh, right.

I feel like I want this but actually in reality don't need it. Could you put mods or say applications on this?

If it can get gamepass on it then it could be a very cheap way of playing a lot of games on the move. Hope it's a success as Nintendo need the competition.

Wish my image sig would work

IGN asked the question and the devs said that you will be able to run GamePass on this thing.

I must admit, I’m super interested in this, I want to see more of it but I also hope this pushes Nintendo also.

Wii U Pad is way more comfortable to hold than the Switch.

It’s the placement of the buttons, being next to the analog sticks look really awkward. I would have preferred the sticks being where those big empty square patches are underneath.

No interest in this but like others have said, I hope it pushes Nintendo. After all, six of my top ten Switch games will be on this as well!

I don’t know. I really don’t. I’ll wait and see. Its the support or possible lack of it that worries me. Steam Machines 2.0

It’s interesting for sure, will it push Nintendo much before their successor comes out in the next 2 or 3 years? (I’m guessing late 2023 for a Switch 2) I’m not so sure, mainly as a huge part of the Switch’s success is due to its fantastic first party lineup. Is it running Game Pass natively or streaming? For myself (having a Switch and Series X) I’ll just wait till Nintendo bring out a Switch 2, could see this being ideal for some people though.

They did say it will run SteamOS/Linux and Windows games which means it's automatically better than the default SteamOS which was limited to just SteamOS/Linux ported games.

I would assume it's using an implementation of Proton/Wine to get the Windows games to run on it, which will massively increase the number of games available to it.

Plus they've said you can install windows on it if you wanted and use that which removes the issue entirely.

It's a decent proposition for the price, especially since you can expand the storage using SD cards if you want.

My interest in it is going to depend on being able to install something like Batocera on it and then be able to run the majority of my steam library on it.

I don’t know the pros and cons of the various operating systems. But if you could get Steam and GPU I’d be really interested in it and if would cover a lot of stuff. I’d use it for smaller, less demanding games for a bit of gaming away from the PC.

Given that you could have a massive library instantly, it softens the £400 tag, but it’s alot.

Another nail in the coffin of the Amico.

How does the price point compare to if you were to purchase a good gaming PC nowadays?

The price of a single new nvidia GPU is more expensive than the 512Gb version with NVME.

It can connect to a TV or monitor via USB.

Yeah, I'll give you that. The Switch desperately needs a case with grips to be played for any real length of time.
