Er, hello Stephen.

So I stopped playing wow after the wrath of the Lich King expansion. I'm thinking of jumping back in. Is anyone ejse on here doing so when vanilla launches at the end of August?

Nah.

Vanilla WoW isn't the amazing experience people make it out to be. There have been so many QoL improvements since then that make the game drastically more playable.

Hell, during the beta people were reporting bugs and missing features that Blizzard had to explain were like that on purpose because that's how Vanilla WoW was.

World Of Warcraft Classic Beta Players Are Reporting Bugs That Are Actually Just Features From The Past

In response to these false bug reports, Blizzard has released a “not-a-bug list.” This list contains about dozen different things that aren’t broken or wrong, but working exactly how Blizzard wants them too. There is an actual bug list of real problems, but that is very different than the list below.

I take it those people never actually played Vanilla WoW, then?

Turns out 14 years of quality of life updates make a significant difference, huh? Who'd have guessed?

Keeping the bugs and the not-working-as-intended gooseberry fool is dumb. It's like they're reproducing them out of spite. Slow respawns? Sure. Getting about being a pain the arse? Expected! (Worst thing about QoL improvements were all the ****ing flight masters the game added.) Quest givers with multiple quests behaving in a confusing way when handing in? Dumb. This is Nintendo levels of spite.

Some of them will have never played it, some of them think they played it but what they actually played were private servers that advertised themselves as classic but had weird mixes of patches and custom improvements along with boosting you immediately to the end game, and some will have played it but given it was about 15-16 years ago they've forgotten just how drastically the game has changed.

The classic enemy respawn rate alone is going to be a massive shock to some people for the early game quests.

It was elements of vanilla that people want back, but not the whole thing.

I always wanted the talent tree, pet talent tree, buying ammo, and feeding pets but most of the rest of it can stay gone.

Main thing to remember is it was 14 years ago. They probably forgot.

Thing is, without all of the bugs and the poor QoL elements there would just be an outcry that it wasn't "Vanilla WoW" at all.

Oh I see why they did it, they said they would give wow as it was and they did.

I think what people were asking for was wrong. They wanted certain mechanics back, but instead of asking for those they asked for it all to be back.
