No doubt I just need to crack on and see more of it.

Welcome to stage 1.

For me it was more like this:

1. Woah there is so much to do, not sure if i'm ready for this
2. Not really enjoying this so far, don't know how to do these riddler trophies
3. Complain on here that its not great and arkham asylum was better

7. Profit?

Yeah im feeling that a bit too. I think i had the tutorial on where it prompted you to press x to "get the rhythm" going for the free flow combat. So if you just mash the x button you loose your multiplier, youve got to press it in rhythm to get it up.

Is that right?

Restarted as I didn't realise I needed to have the catwoman dlc downloaded from the off for it to be interspersed with the Batman bits.

Loving it now. Was pretty wrecked yesterday which is never a great way to start off a game.

I did one of Zsasz's things where I had to leg it across the whole map in two and a half minutes and it was pretty easy and went a long way to convincing me it isn't actually all that mahoosive.

You know you're doing the combat right when you don't drop your multiplier. Challenge rooms and all that. When you get it to something stupid like 75 it feels good, brah.

I can't precisely recall what it is, but basically it has to be one press of button = one hit and then you move the stick in direction of the next bad guy and press whichever button it is again and so on. If in the process of striking a bad guy you get struck yourself then the flow of the move is reset and you have to start over.

While they may not explain this in the game proper itself (while in the game world) I thought it did explain it when on abilities/upgrades page.

I kept the combos simple. Only used fists/kicks etc, didn't bother with using gadgets within the actual combo.

Using takedowns when surrounded by baddies and special baddies I found next to impossible.

One of the other problems with that train thing (if I'm remembering it correctly) is that it takes place in much more cramped area than other fights, and so you can't really put much room between you and the pack even when you have a high combo count.

Im doing well if i get my multiplier up to 10  If you press Y to counter that resets it doesnt it? Also if you walk away for too long doesnt that also reset it? Do you have to use A to dodge back into the crowd and then continue with X to retain the multiplier?

What is wrong with you people?

It's a system built on timing.

X is your go to button to maintain the multiplier. Once you hit someone, move the left stick in the direction of the next you want to hit (even if he's not even on your screen) and hit X and Batman will leap across the screen and put a boot in his face. You shouldn't be "walking away for too long" at any point.

Y use should be obvious and no, it doesn't reset your multiplier.

Dodging/a B stun/batarang will reset your multiplier unless you get an X attack/Y counter in really quickly afterwards.

I'm astounded that people can think it's such a great game and not have a grasp on the superb combat system*. It is literally one of the best combat systems in a game at the moment. When you get the free flow speed increase thing, they actually almost give up animating him as he's essentially a blur bouncing between enemies and clocking them one. When it clicks and you take out every enemy without dropping your combo it feels fantastic. It's a system built on timing.

*A testament to how great everything else is, I guess.

mild retardation

When you press x and leap across the screen can that be a button mash or does it have to be properly timed?

Cheers

Just tap it once batman has caved the last guy's face in. Timing can get you one of those "critical strikes" but the best way to do it is just to get into the flow of things and you'll find yourself racking up criticals Like A Baws.

I wish I could have explored the city as Bats but fought as Catwoman. Once you go Cat you don't wanna go back... even though they make you :x :x :x

Only done the first section with her and didn't actually notice any differences apart from the obvious (what the hell is going on with that "sneaking?" It's just embarrassing.)

I don't know how someone couldn't 'get' the combat. The only trouble I had was the roomfuls of guys with guns. They all just crowded together which meant taking them down one by one silently really difficult, and the swing from the gargoyles mechanic feels really cheap.

And the Catwoman sections are strawberry floating gooseberry fool, shouldn't have bothered restarting your game, Haz.

I just played the second section with her and it was alright, actually. I like the jumping around mechanic.

Meanwhile, I really don't like how they've written Alfred. Tried to go for dry sarcasm and they've just made him into a knob.

Where are they finding all these armless thugs?

Anyway, I'm awful at the VR challenges. Can't do any of the second set.

Up to the bit with the Penguin. Pretty damn great.

Didn't you even like duffing baddies up with her? She's so fast!

I think they're equally fast. If you time it right you can actually cancel out of animations in certain situations, like countering while you should still be smashing someone in the gob.

Anyone got any tips for this second set of VR trainings? I just can't do them.

They're probably equally fast once they get going, but I found Catwoman got there quicker than Bats.

There was a really good video on YouTube that not only showed you how to do augmented training but the guy also talked you through it in great detail. Not having any luck finding it though.

edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v44nzd8LqM best one I could find.

The only AR training that gave me trouble was that stupid one to fly through the carnival tunnel :x :x :x Whoever thought that up should be shot, as the camera goes mental once in there and you can't judge what the hell is going on.
