Endlessly charming, outrageously funny and surprising in so many unexpected ways, as well as fun and involving, with a turn based battle system that also requires timing and strategy.

These are the games I'm looking to eliminate

13. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Mega Drive)
35. Resident Evil 4
39. Monkey Island 2
44. Skies of Arcadia
46. Resident Evil 2 (2019)
54. Metroid Fusion
55. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
58. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
82. Silent Hill 2
83. Fallout: New Vegas
86. God of War (PS4)

Take God of War off of that list right now! And BOTH remaining Resident Evil games, really? Also, no Mario, or Zelda! Your top 10 is going to be diabolical!

Well my list did include Paper Mario, so it does have Mario! :P

And I plan to chop some Mario/Zelda games before the top 10

Also you are the first person to significantly object to my list

My bad, I expect a couple of Mario games for the top ten, and paper should definitely be one of them. My refined objection is therefore mainly God of War and PM.

Spotted this on twitter just now - I know it's for the GC version, but may be of interest to some in this thread.

People voting for Silent Hill 2 made me feel sad.

It's supposed to be one of the best, influential horror games ever.

It's going to be voted just shy of the 30th best game of all time and I think that's reflective of that fact. Monkey Island 2 cannot go yet.

Ahh NGC, what a mag.

It wasn't their review that had interested me in Skies of Arcadia though, it was one I read years prior in Gamesmaster (I think) for original release. Having never owned a Dreamcast, it seemed so unattainably exotic.

Lovely art style, engaging battle system, colourful and diverse adventure with a funny and lightly anarchic take on the clean (sometimes sterile) Mario universe.

Thanks for that, it does seem to have plenty of followers but I've just never had that attraction to it myself.

I really struggle to see how it can be better than some of the RPGs that have already gone out by there you go! :D

I think the battle mechanics alone are one reason I'd put above most typical RPG's. Yes they are turn based, but with timing for damage boost and various different inputs included in various attacks it's just more fun than just picking something from a list (you still pick things from a list, but you get to interact with the battle as well.)

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does this brilliantly (along with loads of other great things about the game) and that went ages ago so I'm still not convinced Paper Mario should stick around!

Xenoblade Chronicles is more real-time fighting than Paper Mario and other traditional RPGs. I also believe few have played XBC2 and that was one reason for it go very early.

Real-time may be wrong, but I dunno, it's more like WoW or something (well, from the little I played of it, I played the first one the most and rate it as the BEST RPG.)

I made a game on RPG Maker back in the day (early 2006) and sent a copy to NGC, they printed it in a 'stuff readers made' section on the letters page complete with screenshots and a link to Global Nintendo (the forum where eliminator was born) where it could be then downloaded.

Spent weeks working on it at the time so to see it in that issue was quite an achievement.

Anyways...

Silent Hill 2 - 8
Monkey Island 2 - 2
KOTOR - 2
Link to the Past - 1
New Vegas - 1
Doom - 1
Skies of Arcadia - 1
Goldeneye - 1

...and so, a series i've never tried has gone (though i quite liked the movie), yes, SILENT HILL 2 HAS BEEN ELIMINATED!

Also, Fallout New Vegas.

It was mostly standard RPG fare, but a lot of the characters were based on the people i knew on Global Nintendo and there were game character cameos by the bucketload, there were also a lot of in jokes about perverted badgers and cats with small tails (it's not the size that matters etc...). Worked pretty well actually, pretty much every in game object could be inspected as i made everything clickable. Also, as the game progressed, i was getting a lot better with the RPG Maker tools as the latter stages were much more technically accomplished and i was doing some pretty complicated things by the end (cut scenes, transparent floors, movable boulder puzzles, edited sprites, a Mario Kart race with proper overtaking which was simulated by making slight variations in the routes of the various kart sprites, hence some would appear faster than others).

The game itself is long gone now, but i do still have some old screenshots...
