Videogame system setup

I am - at last! - upgrading my living room TV and I'm just working out what gaming systems I'll be using with it.

I *think* I'm gonna connect up my Wii U and Switch to the new screen; and I'd like to use the Wii, too, if I get an HDMI adapter for it - or maybe the Amico if I get one in the future! Obviously none of those systems use 4K but I tend to have my "multiplayer" consoles in the living room and I'll continue using my PS4 Pro in my "gaming corner" area as that's where my computer is which is handy for streaming.

How do you setup your gaming screens and systems? Maybe you use your living room TV for everything? Or perhaps you are fortunate to have more than one screen? Some folk will undoubtedly be rocking a cosy bedroom setup.

Please share your gaming setups here; both words and pictures are welcome .

Series X and Switch are downstairs in the main living room. Xbox One is in the bedroom. 360 is in the attic somewhere.

Why do you want your Wii and Wii U setup?

My setup is a mess. I have my PC next to my chair, it has my Famicom, Super Famicom and PS2 on it, next to that I have a small cupboard that has the Mega Drive and N64 on it and they all connect to the capture card via HDMI and are played on the Main TV. I don't have space for a gaming room or area due to being in a shitty 3 bedroom house and there's 6 of us here.

On the TV Unit I have my Switch, Wii U 360 and Xbox One X. I put the 360 just to stream Sonic 06 as it was not BC.

It sure is tough to keep a neat setup when you have a range of systems. I recall that you have a number of mini consoles as well, Pedz! It's fantastic that you have so many systems running through your capture card for streaming, though.

The only issue I have is I use a splitter for PS5 and Xbox One X, it means the picture isn't RGB which is what I believe gives the best for colour. I should just have all my cables by the capture card and swap 'em when needed tbh. I just don't want to strawberry float the port by unplugging and plugging in HDMI cables every few hours. I was looking and I believe I need a splitter that is HDMI 2.1 and not 2.0. The issue is I can't find one.

I would take pics but the room is in the process of being decorated and the TV is in the corner of the room and I can't deal with the backlash.

I got myself one of those Hue HDMI sync boxes last month which is pretty good for cable clutter. I now have my 4 active devices running through that, then a single cable to the TV, leaving 3 HDMI sockets spare on my TV. Plus 2 of my TV's HDMI sockets don't support higher bandwidth needed to get the best settings so I can cram all my devices through the sync box and not have to worry about that any more

Yeah, plugging and un-plugging all the time does raise the risk of socket damage, Pedz. Your idea of a splitter sounds cool.

I like that approach, BID0! I've not heard of that Hue HDMI box but it would appear to be a great solution.

My TV will be in the corner of my room. Would this setup attract a few jibes?

Mancave/Office - PC, Xbox Series S, PS4 Pro, Switch (Consoles go through a HDMI switcher through to an elgato on the PC, so there's no having to change inputs on the monitors and I can have games play within a window on the PC).

I used to have most of the consoles downstairs on the main PC, but now with working from home, there's a lot of downtime so I moved most of it to the office.

It's great to have two separate entertainment areas, D_C, and I can see why you've shifted some kit around whilst you're working from home. It's cool how you have a number of systems setup to run through your capture card.

PS5 and PS4 in the living room routed through a Soundbar hooked up to a 55" 4K TV; PS3 Slim, PS Classic and SNES Mini on a 21" HD-Ready TV in a bedroom. The PS2 and Gamecube are occasionally brought out of retirement and used on this smaller TV too, but due to the SCART connection (which itself isn't true SCART it's that crummy component adaptor) looks very smudged and washed out. Only positive is that some games do at least support 60Hz and Widescreen (though not many).

Literally the only reason the PS4 isn't packaged away is because of All4 and My5.

Living room TV has both PS4s and a Switch dock hooked up and that's it. When we move house I'll finally get more of a retro setup and a second TV in the bedroom. The CRT somewhere too I think

Camped out in the living room at the moment with my PC and Switch. Will bring out my PS4 soon for Persona 5 Royal probs. Got my PS3, Wii and Wii U in the cupboard which I plan to break out at some point, as well as another screen for streaming. Also my PS2 which I've been wanting to play the OG Yakuza on but I don't have a CRT at the moment.

I just have the PS5 and Switch connected as I don't like to keep old consoles.

This sounds like a great dual-setup, KK! As you've just got the two consoles linked up to your main TV it may be cool to have both there rather than disconnecting the PS4?

It is a wee bit annoying when new consoles seem to take a while to get all of the features that the older consoles had!

Excellent to hear that you have a few retro systems available as well. And... another CRT mention! They're seemingly becoming popular again!

It's funny how some folk (including myself) couldn't contemplate moving on older systems whilst others just love to bring on the bright and new! I'm imagining that your setup is super slick and modern, Zilnad!

It's really silly having two PS4s stacked up (one mine, one my girlfriends) but it means we can have different games installed to each. Modern console problems!

The WiiU is boxed up yeah, has been since we moved here so for two years. I'm more keen to get the wii hooked back up though for GC games!

It definitely won't be a retro room, probably more a retro corner
