Hope your new TV works out Jawa! Honestly, I got a new one a month or so back after one that was about 10 years old and the difference with the old one, even on the PS4, was pretty huge so you should be in for a treat.

I'm also staggered by Cheeky's set up. Applause! I think it wins everything.

I tend to get rid of old consoles now, when I can get their stuff on the new ones. Otherwise I'd be a right hoarder. I've got a Wii U in the attic plus all the paraphenalia, because I've downloaded loads of retro stuff there and can still play old Wii games (which aren't worth selling but are worth it for that system).

But if truth be told, I doubt it'll ever be used again, so I should just lob it, and this year has taught me to clear out clutter you don't need.

Anyhow, set ups. I was happy to find my new TV has 4 hdmi ports, but there's a balance with other media stuff to be struck, I've found. So, one of those is taken up with the Sky box.

Another for the PS4 which I've still loads to play through, plus it's being kept for VR. And blu rays, if ever I watch one of them again. But sadly hasn't been switched on in a while.

Another for the Chromecast with Stadia - but to which I can also cast other apps and media.

And the last one, the Series S, which has reinvigorated my gaming again.

So, in this complicated calculus, the old TV went up to the bedroom. That one has a dedicated Blu Ray player and the switch, plus an older Chromecast - which sadly can't handle Stadia, but is good enough for casting Netflix etc.

The logic for the Switch going upstairs is, if I want to play in the living room I can undock it and therefore play anything there, rather than swapping connections around. I mean, I really spent ages thinking about this.

Lastly, there's the spare room 24 inch TV. It's got a bog standard dvd player, plus a Megadrive mini classic and Snes classic mini too, because they look good. With a Nes and PlayStation mini in the cupboard next to it, ready to be plugged in. (They will probably never be used again or, in the latter's case, plugged in but they look nice).

Pretty jealous of Cheeky's games room there.

My setup is a Switch and Wii U connected to the TV and that's it

To be honest for me part of fun of collecting and hooking these systems up is in showing it off to people, so I'm happy with that reaction.

That said I'm aware of just how incredibly lucky I am to have:

1 - The room for all this stuff
2 - The time and money to spend on it
3 - A wife who ~~encourages~~tolerates it.

It's always been something I've wanted and it's my little sanctuary.

I'll never be done with it though. :lol:

Much of my gaming gear - and pretty much al of my retro stuff - is in the cupboard or the loft; I just don't have the space to set it all up. One day I'd like to have a room with it all connected up and ready to go - as with Cheeky Dev's magnificent setup! - but I think that'll be some way off. I really don't like getting rid of old kit; a few trade-ins when I was younger made me realise that I have the type of personality which regrets that kinda thing. I can appreciate the idea of streamlining and only keeping stuff that you use for folk that dig that approach, though!

It sure is surprising how many things we all have to connect up. My screen has four HDMI sockets, too, but I'm already thinking about plugging in a splitter.

Yeah, I am still hugely enjoying my PS4 and, looking over my games, I have more than enough to keep me interested for the foreseeable future. It has made me realise that a move to new gen isn't an urgent matter for me personally.

It's neat that you're still making use of your older screen. My one has gone into the loft!

Hee! That sounds like a cool setup. I have been tempted by those mini consoles so many times and I came really close to getting the PC Engine one. But I knew that I wouldn't really play them and somehow managed to resist.

. As much as I like and admire the larger setups, I do also genuinely like the idea of just having one or two consoles and really enjoying them.

Alas, tucked away in a cupboard, along with nearly all my retro gear. As I just posted in my reply to Abacus, I just don't have the space to set it all up. The stuff I do have connected is only the more recent systems (Xbox 360, Wii U, PS4 and Switch). One day, things like my C64 and 32X will rise again!

the contrast between Devlin and Jen's posts :lol:

my setup is pretty simple:

ps2 (modded), 360, NES, Megadrive, PS4 all connected to an old HDTV. ive got decent cabling for all of them so they dont look like complete gooseberry fool (mostly from retrogamingcables DOT come)
PC is connected to a 16:10 monitor and the tv. i play games with a controller on the tv and mouse & kb on the monitor. tv and monitor are next to each other so i can easily switch between them.

when i move (hopefully next year) i will probably get the widescreen crt out of the loft and use that for my retro consoles, have the others connected as they currently are but not sure yet.

It sounds like several GRcadians are following Cheeky Dev's lead and trying out CRTs; modern screens are totes lovely but a CRT often remains the better option for older systems!

I got rid of mt CRT last year, or early this year. I simply don't have room for it. Was not happy though

I replaced my last CRT in 2007.

Used to have a little Panasonic 14"

Not 100% sure if it was this model, but it certainly looks like it...

Just got a Switch and Xbox Series S hooked up to my 60" Sharp HDTV, with a Sony soundbar that has a wireless subwoofer.

I find it crazy to think now that the vast majority of my gaming as a kid was done on a 14" portable TV, and not even one that I was sat particularly close to!

Absolutely, Jen. I used a black and white 12" "portable" TV as my gaming screen for about five years until I started work!

Better yet I'd play split screen timesplitters on mine all the time :datass:

I was still playing wii on it at uni in 2013, it's honestly fine (as we know it must have been)

And yeah plenty of split screen action like Goldeneye happened on my portable screen and we managed to have a great time so it was obviously fine, but I don't think I would go back to it by choice!

I do think that modern game UI's would struggle on such a small TV, some of the text is ridiculously small now

I spent the whole of the 90's using a little Hikona 14", it was such an unusual model and brand that i can't even find a pic of it (all the Hikona TV's on google image search are of later models).

I've got my temporary setup pretty much sorted as of yesterday. :toot:

Atm it's a huge circular setup based on an L shaped desk (more than 180 degrees of screens!), with my work from home setup on the right, which takes up 2x 27 inch monitors and the laptop for when webcam is required for conference calls and Zoom/Teams meetings. Then to the left of that there's my recreation space, with a 40 inch TV for the Xbox beside the WFH stuff, then a bit of empty space on the second part of the desk, and slightly off in the distance my 4K LG 43". This means I can have my MacBook on the desk in front of me and watch TV over the top of it without having to look to an angle or whatever, which is nice. I also use that empty area for other stuff like food prep, eating, or TCG, because I only have the one seat. :shifty:

It's a really nice Secretlabs Titan I bought at the start of April, so at least it's a comfortable spot to spend the days in lockdown.

Once my sofa (eventually) turns up from DFS and I get my bonus from work in March I'm going to upgrade to an OLED TV and a PS5, which will go against the wall in a much more conventional setup. The 43 inch TV will go into my room because it has Wifi, the 40 inch will probably stay where it is because I like having a higher/closer TV for stuff like Rock Band.

Wow! So many screens, Wrathy! It looks really neat and comfortable and it's nice to have everything close to hand. I like the cool mouse mats and rests.
