Yeah, seems Jawa and LewisD have both decided to leave, a shame really, this wasn’t anything worth the agro it seemed to cause.

Definitely a clash of personalities that has happened. Hopefully both are only on a temporary break after the initial feelings have faded.

Anyway, since this is now the VR thread, I've been dabbling a fair bit with my Rift again the past few weeks.

Loaded up Tetris Effect last night for the first time in years and I'd forgotten just how phenomenal that game is in VR.
Utterly zoned in when playing to the point you barely notice all the cool gooseberry fool going on around the playfield.

I've also got Star Wars Squadrons reinstalled as I remember quite enjoying that as well.

I spent the entire day pissing around moving and changing my racing setup, so I didn't get my vr stuff out like I intended.

Squadrons is excellent in vr, another one benefiting from a hotas. It's amazing being IN a star wars dogfight.

Wow, this thread was easy to find.

So the Pico 4 Ultra released quietly at the end of last week, apparently.

https://www.picoxr.com/uk/products/pico4-ultra

Quest 3 beating specs, at a comparable price. The biggest drawback is obviously in their standalone software store, that can't compete with the existing Quest store. However as a PC headset, it supports WiFi 7, so for wireless use as a PC HMD, this should be really well positioned, and it also seems to have the best quality colour passthrough, at consumer level at least, which also seems to be what a lot of the VR industry is leaning in to for AR integration.

Will be waiting for a while to see how it is received by actual users, but this might well be the next upgrade for me some time next year, assuming Deckard seems to have gone all quiet and stays that way.

The sooner someone figures out a way to bust the Quest open and run it's software on PCs and by extension other headsets the better.
This walled garden gooseberry fool is not good for a niche market like VR.

Yep, it's utter bullshit. Hitman VR got a full rework to improve the controls and how you interact with the world, but it's only available on Quest 3. Resi 4 VR, by all accounts an excellent adaptation of an old classic into VR, also Quest 2 exclusive. Neither even available on the old Oculus PC store for Rift owners. Zuckerberg wants you all in on his standalone headset, or not at all.

To be fair, that Hitman VR is also cutback graphically in terms of visuals and features. As good a rework as it apparently is for VR, missing out on two thirds of the trilogy isn't exactly the best of trades.

I think that's what annoys me more. They have a PC store, but no interest in stocking it. As you say, Zuckerberg wants everyone in on his standalone piece of gooseberry fool.

And Hitman VR wouldn't need to be cutback if it had a PC port. But nope. Got to make a cheap buck shilling shite underpowered headsets.

strawberry float Meta.

If more standalone headsets were to come to the market, I'd likely swap to one of those instead. But... I also feel kind of locked into the Quest ecosystem because there's no chance I'd be able to access my purchases elsewhere. And yeah, it feels like any other platform would be left in the dust simply because the Quest ecosystem is most popular.

What the hell? The PSVR2 Hitman release that's just been announced is the full game. Featuring all the enhancements that come from 3 VR Reloaded in the main game! Is the VR mode in the PC release going to ever get these features?

Meta Quest 3S announced. Starts at £290. Out next month.

Same chipset as the Quest 3, but a larger form factor, no depth sensor, narrower field of view and a reduction in resolution. Doesn’t sound a compelling purchase. Especially as…

Meta Quest 3 gets $150 price drop.

I'd initially thought that the 3S could be a decent buy but, looking at the spec reduction, I'm not really convinced. If I had the dough to splash out £380 on the 3S 256GB, I think that I'd rather spend a bit more on the 3 (full spec) 512GB at around £470.

I'm hoping that the PSVR 2 pricing reverts to the offer in place a couple of months back. That seemed to really kickstart sales. Either way, I won't be getting one in the near future but hopefully further down the line.

Yeah, the 3S looks like a step backwards, but probably not a bad idea to have a lower-cost entry point for more casual users. The real news in what I posted is the big price reduction of the Quest 3.

The big price reduction could lead to me buying a Quest 3, my Quest 2 is barely holding on but I've been holding off on the 3 as it's way too expensive atm.
