that's cause we don't actually celebrate it

That can't be true because every St George's Day all we hear in England are racists telling us how everyone else celebrates their patron saint's day.

and you think they'd actually know what we do?

Of course. Why wouldn't a racist living in Essex know what Scottish people do?

Thank you everyone for the replies  We'll have a look through to suggestions and work out an itinerary for the trip. I think we'll lean more towards Edinburgh just because of the number of things to do and therefore more chance to distract/entertain/preoccupy the toddler :shifty: :slol:

We've both wanted to visit Scotland and thought that the flight time would be shorter so more manageable with a toddler. It looks like flights to Berlin are only about 30 minutes longer so we might go there next year.

I've been to Edinburgh twice and also Fort William to climb Ben Nevis. The first time we went I proposed to my wife so it's got a special place in our hearts and it's a beautiful city. We didn't get over to Glasgow as it was a surprisingly long train journey if I recall. We stayed for the first night in a fancy hotel on the Royal Mile and then decamped to Port Seton which is a few miles out (my wife rented a car to go up the Golf Coast at least one of the times but Prestonpans station is 1.3 miles away according to Wikipedia and will take you into Edinburgh). We had a really nice little cottage which was looking out onto the sea when there was a crazy storm going on - was amazing!

Whereabouts do you live? That would obviously affect transport routes.

We're in Hertfordshire so are looking to fly to Scotland. We were thinking of flying to Edinburgh and taking the train to Glasgow (or vice versa) but we may just stick with one city if it's too long a journey (we ruled out the train to Aberdeen for this reason).

It's about 45 minutes on the train, so easily visitable. :D
