Played an hour so far

Boy Spoilers:

Played through the boy so far. I did the space walk and got 2 presents, then went on the train twice, second time meeting the wolf guy because I crashed it. Didn't do the other two rooms until later when you can revist them, so not sure if I missed anything. When you can explore the whole ship I kept trying to go everywhere worried I was going to miss something, so many nice little touches. Gone to the bad sector and now it's making me play as the girl so I thought this would be a perfect time for a break. Wonder if I get to play more of him later, 1 hour 10 mins of play time for him seems a little short.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why embargoing the review till the game is actually available to the general public was really a mistake.

Part 1 is available to buy now.

I don't think it's a mistake, as such. Originally they were going to go with Early Access but instead they decided against it on the ground that Part 1 is "finished", now. Treating it as unfinished and embargoing reviews makes sense for an Early Access game where the game is still in development, but the way it's been released has rather more in common with Telltales episodic titles than Early Access.

The first part of the game isn't available to play till the 28th unless you are a backer as far as I'm aware. Its like having reviews up for the next Telltale game 2 weeks before the first episode is released.

Hmm, I see.

Eh, it's only a week, I guess. Reviews a week in advance of general availability isn't too bad.

Because creating an embargo out of their ass at the last minute to people who actually paid for their game is ridiculous. Neither the press members who paid for the game nor any other backer with a goddamn blog agreed to this when they paid for it.

In short, they're not handing out review copies and saying there's an embargo. These are customer purchased products that are being given access to but also being embargoed. Well, "were" being embargoed. Would be interesting to see how many sites would ignore Double Fine's embargo. I know Digital Trends was going to.

If the game was done I might agree with you, but right now the game is still in beta. I realize it's probably not unheard of for beta versions of games to be reviewed, but I don't think it was at all unreasonable of Double Fine to ask people to hold back on reviewing it until the game was fully done.

Part one is considered "complete".

And indeed, 3 hours or so later by Steam's count, and so am I.

I've only played about an hour so far but it's a real delight.

Looks and sounds stunning and the writing is as good as you'd expect from Schafer.

My biggest disappointment is simply that it's currently over.

I need like a drip feed of this gooseberry fool that they can just hook right into my veins.

There's a pretty neat easter egg hidden in the options menu.
Old-school graphics mode.
You're on your own.

Wonderful ending I have to say. Act 2 can't come soon enough.

If you haven't backed the game the game or pre-purchased it, Broken Age has now been released on Steam.

New trailer:

Backers: There's a new episode of the documentary out that takes us all the way to the beta launch on the 14th.

Just finished this. I really enjoyed it. I played through Vella's part first, then Shay's. I didn't see the ending coming at all.

I think in terms of gameplay, Shay's half is considerably worse, but that's largely because you're stuck in set environments, where as with Vella, despite the fact you're not doing anything particularly amazing, the setting keeps changing and you meet loads of new and interesting people.

Can't wait to see what happens with the next half.

What I can't understand is:

The ship presumably knows about the Mog Chothra thing, so why is the wolf guy having to sneak around to do the Maiden's Feast stuff? And what are you running away from the first time you go to "save" the creatures and it reports you're being attacked? Because Vella only starts fighting Mog Chothra the third time.

More over, what are you doing with the girls kept in the cargo bay? Shay is clearly only a teenager, if that, so it wasn't him who was in there the last time Mog Chothra came around for the Maiden's Feast, and the computer is an imprint of someone who keeps calling him son and was Maiden at some point.

Really enjoyed this but 3 hours is not enough for all the hype and time and what have you put into it. Need to get their arses in gear with Act 2.

In what sense? 3 hours for one half of an adventure game is well within the acceptable genre expectations for length.
