Finally started playing this - it's great

Just full on Advance Wars, and with excellent art and animation

I've had this purchased for a while since it was on sale and finally got around to starting it this morning.

Really enjoying it so far. I'm only a couple of missions in (you have to use wagons to escort townsfolk) but already it's getting tough, every move has to count.

I burnt out I think after about 25 hours, so didn't see the ending or DLC. It's a brilliant game, just a bit of an ever increasing time sink with the later stages!

The puzzle mode is brilliant too, well worth giving a go as a change of pace from the main story (until you get stuck on a puzzle like I did and it ends up taking more time than a story map anyway  )

I too stopped playing this when each map started taking over an hour to beat (or more accurately, lose 55 minutes in before restarting and repeat several times).

Its a great game but a lot of the later maps are just far too big.

Got to the mission where dogs are introduced as scouts, and you have to make your way through a fog of war forest. Plays for 45 mins and died so I have to do it again :fp:

And that's an early game map!

You can probably smash through it much quicker at least on a second attempt. As neat as the combat animations are the game speeds up massively if you turn them off too. I ended up turning them back on to see new unit types but by default playing with them off.

The game suffers from the genre-wide issue of being able to get into a losing state, but not outright losing for a long time after getting into that position. Sort of like Monopoly.
