PostWarlords of Garcadia [Forum Game] *A king is crowned*

The old king is dead! Rulerless, the land has fallen into chaos, butchered up between rival warlords. Can a new monarch rise up and return peace to Garcadia?

In Warlords of Garcadia, each player is a warlord in command of an army. Every day these troops can clash on the battlefield as rivals vie for power and influence. Military prowess will only get a warlord so far however - forging alliances and playing politics is vital for survival, and will ultimately decide who will rise up as Garcadia's new ruler!

This is a forum game that anyone can play - you only need to send one PM per day. Even if you miss a day that's fine too - you'll just keep your troops back in defence. Of course, those who commit more time to forging alliances might find themselves doing better, but in general the more people who play the better!

Rules (in brief)

Every day you can choose how many troops to send out to attack any number of players, and how many to keep back in defence.

If you lose all your defending troops, you will be taken captive and be unable to act until freed - if you don't get executed by your captor instead.

Forge alliances and agree to combined action in order to survive and compete.

The ultimate winner is chosen by unanimous election as the new monarch, although simply surviving until the end may well be your goal.

Rules (in full)

The game day will run (roughly) from 10pm. PMs should be sent any time before 10pm in order to be counted.

Each day, every surviving and non-captive player should PM the host with their troop deployments. This is a breakdown of their total soldiers between those sent out to attack other players, and those kept back in defence.

Any number of other players can be attacked in a single turn. For example if Bob has 1000 troops, he may send 200 to attack Alice, 100 to attack Charlie, and keep the remaining 700 back in defence.

A player is taken captive by an opponent and therefore unable to actively play if all of their soldiers in defence are defeated (providing any number of attacking forces survive).

Battles are simple attrition. If 500 attackers go up against 600 defenders, 100 defenders will survive and the attackers will be wiped out. If 300 attackers go up against 100 defenders, 200 attackers will survive and the defending player will be taken captive.

Where multiple groups of attackers are all pitched against defenders, and the total attackers outnumber the total defenders, attacker losses will be divided up by ratio of the size of attacking groups. For example, if Bob is defending with 100 soldiers, and is attacked by Alice with 150 soldiers and Charlie with 50, Alice will lose 75 troops and Charlie will lose 25. The captor will be decided by random choice between attackers, weighted by relative troop commitments. In this instance, Alice has a 75% chance of taking Bob captive, while Charlie has a 25% chance.

It is not possible to aid another player in their own defence, other than through gifting troops the day prior.

Every day, each surviving player recruits 100 new soldiers, up to a maximum of 1000 soldiers.

If a player is being held captive, their recruits are instead given to the player who is holding them captive. For example, if Alice is holding Bob captive, she will recruit 200 soldiers a day.

A captive player can be executed by their captor, eliminating them from the game entirely. In doing so, the captor loses their recruit bonus.

If a player is captured who themselves has captive players, all become captives of the newly capturing player.

Captive players can be freed by their captor, which will return them to active play as an ordinary non-captive player.

Captives can be freed or executed at any point - it does not need to happen at the end of day.

If a captured player has surviving troops from an attack of their own, those troops will remain out of play until the player is freed, at which point they immediately regain them.

If two or more players manage to defeat and capture each other in the same turn so that none of them are free ("cross-capturing"), all will be freed. All captives held by those players will also be freed.

Troops can be freely exchanged between players providing there is mutual agreement between trading parties (and staying within the 1000 soldiers maximum for each player).

Troop exchanges can be done publicly in-thread, and will be resolved instantaneously on the host seeing the posts confirming the exchange.

Troops can also be exchanged secretly by PM. Those exchanges will be applied at the end of the day, just prior to the resolution of the day's attacks. These exchanges still require consent from both parties involved, so if you tell the host to gift troops to another player via PM, the host will message them to confirm that they accept. These exchanges will also be publicly documented in the end of day post - so they are only secret up until they happen.

Captives can be traded between players with mutual agreement, and must be done publicly in thread.

An election can be called at any point by a surviving non-captive player. A new monarch can only be elected by unanimous vote of all surviving non-captive players.

PMing other players as well as posting in-thread is both allowed and encouraged!

Sign-ups will close 22:00 Wednesday 5th June, at which time the game will begin.

FAQ

What are the rules on posting when captive/dead?
Captives can definitely post and PM, just because you're being held prisoner doesn't mean you can't sneak out messages with a faithful servant. Conspiring against your captor is risky of course, if it becomes public they might just decide to have you executed.

As for dead posting, no strict ban but don't ruin anyone's secret plans out of bitterness. I won't be against someone death posting their last will and testament in which they insist on someone else being attacked, things like that which make sense in flavour and add to the fun are fine. But you'd only do it the once immediately on death, not later in the game when you want to unfairly influence something, and obviously directly quoting PMs in thread just because you died would be a no-no.

General spectator posting from anyone dead or not playing is fine.

Why would you ever free a captive?
And why would you be monarch?

To be just and noble. Or maybe a rival alliance will demand you free their ally with the threat of attack.

Being crowned monarch ends the game.

(I guess I'm in as long as it won't ruin the game if I miss a day occasionally. If you'd rather everyone was very active then happy to sit out though!)

:toot: Missing a day is the same as keeping all your troops in defence i.e. it's a valid play. I deliberately want the game to be as low barrier to entry as possible, similar to how lots of people were able to play BRcade.

No one should worry about not being around every day, and the only thing you need to keep up with in-thread will be the single daily update.

If it's low demand, I guess it doesn't matter that it runs during E3. Sign me up for this Galactic Conquest. What do you mean this isn't Elite Squadron?
