... with JK Rowling to serve as Executive Producer. :dread:

As expected, a Max Original Harry Potter series was made official today at the Warner Bros. Discovery presser with author J.K. Rowling executive producing.

The series, which will stream worldwide on Max, will be a faithful take on her classic Harry Potter books with a new cast. There will be a new cast and this series is billed as being a “decade-long one,” authentic to the books.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” said J.K. Rowling.

I don’t see how she couldn’t be EP on it if it’s literally a retelling of her books.

Obviously it's for the money, but I wonder how much of her decision comes from the original main HP cast not being trans hating monsters.

The movies cut out huge amounts from the books and the pacing feels off. Only Philosopher's Stone works in movie format because it's the shortest book.

As a rough rule, something like 100 pages should / could correspond to 45 to 60 minutes so it works well with HBO. It would mean Philosopher's Stone would be a very short season compared to the 4th and 5th book unless they pad it out with lots of fluff not in the books.

Adam Driver as Snape seems an obvious casting decision.

Perhaps the extended duration combined with the current trend for over analysis online will draw some more attention to how badly the whole thing holds up the more it expands over time

I think it was because I had a shite time at school but I don't understand why anyone would want fiction set in it?

I just don't see the point of this at all.

Everyone with any interest already knows how the story turns out. So if this will be authentic to the books then there will be absolutely no new content.

Even mega HP fans will be hard pushed to follow a pay-to-view TV series for a decade that they already know all the outcomes for.

They're hoping it'll be a kid-friendly Game of Thrones. But with Game of Thrones, ASOIAF wasn't finished. And they never claimed they'd be completely faithful to the books. And there weren't already eight Game of Thrones movies telling the exact same story.

Shameless cash-in.

It's purely a financial decision, as advised by Rowling's local bookie.

While i know a lot was cut from the books, i just don't see what this will bring tbh, as much as i love the HP series, it just seems unnecessary.

Also, Alan Rickman is irreplaceable.
